Sky - moving home and phone line

I have read up and am aware that I need an active BT line to succesfully move my current Sky HD, Sky Talk and Broadband installation to my new house.

However, I am not sure whether the Sky HD box needs to be connected to the line for 12 months as it needs to be for new customers of multiroom customers?

I don't have multiroom and have been a Sky customer for 4 years now. Will the Sky installer only need to connect up the phone line to the Sky HD box during installation?

Do the installers carry a phone line extension cable with them or would I need to purchase one for the installation as the phone socket is in the other room.

Is there a satellite dish at your new address? How much do $ky want to charge you to 'move' you? Have you considered getting a quote from a local, reputable satellite/aerial installer?

I just moved home and the new house had no BT line (they were on Virgin) but did have Sky dish.
TV transfer was instant but Sky insist on ME paying £125 for a BT Line to transfer THEIR broadband and phone service to my new address.

I called retentions twice and they will not budge - so I have cancelled. Adviser even said "just change provider if you don't want to pay it".

Have cancelled broadband & talk - looking at probably going with Virgin now.

Have a look in the home phone section in the forum, as you do not necessarily need to pay £125 for a new phone line. By having your phone with Virgin (cable) you are certainly going to be saddled with higher charges, as well as severely limiting your options for broadband.

I've seen BT are doing an offer (if u can get it) for free line but £11.54 a month ans mion 10 calls must be made a month.

Not sure if sky will just give me my £5 (8MB) broadband back if I get a BT free line.

I asked Sky to match BT and they said "We are not BT that is not our offer" - even though a BT engineer is sent out to do their lines!

Virgin is 10MB - £23.50 a month for line rental and broadband and weekend calls. - first 2 months free.

I don't want to start discussing home phones in this section, but be aware of the following: there are (basically) two types of landline, cable and non-cable. Non-cable landlines are colloquially known as 'BT lines'. Why? Because as you correctly said Openreach (part of BT) physically installs the line. Openreach charges your telephone company for the installation, and your phone company charges you. I have no idea what the wholesale price is, but different phone companies charge different prices.

Take some time out to read the Home Phones section. With a non cable line you will normally be free to choose your ISP, irrespective of whom you pay line rental to. This is not the case with cable.

I don't know how much they want to charge me as I haven't gotten around to calling them but I thought it was £30?

Is that the correct price?

Also, how long does it 'usually' take to move the phone service with BT from old address to new address with an inactive line? Also, do they disconnect the service from the old address as soon as you phone them to relocate the service or after a few days?

£60 now for a move.
