Summer work for students

Any work from home jobs for students available that anyone knows of?
I'm really struggling to find summer work and the only option seems to be ridiculously inconvienient hours at a local factory which would mess around with my whole lifestyle.
I have tried all the supermarkets etc includin the one I worked at over christmas and even sent them stamped addressed envelopes so they could reply. Unfortunately only 2 of the 12 even bothered contacting me to say "no".

Any ideas?

Have you tried finding a work placement in the industry that you want to work in? Lots of companies take students on for placements during the summer holidays and it has the added bonus that you gain work experience at the same time.0

Well im off to a job agency eithe ron wednesday or thursday. They should be able to find me a job as giving out CV's to shops hasnt worked. This agency has also got 4 of my friends a job, but they do not work anymore.
Is job agencies a good idea? Are they reliable? I've never tried one out.
Im prepared to work anytime between 7am-10pm and about 10 hours a day. I tried M&S and they said I have to call them up for an interview and if I succeed in that then I will get a formal interview.
Has anyone else got a summer job? How did you get it? let me and other knows.
Thanks,

I have never had a problem finding temping work... but it depends where you live
I touch type 60wpm, have decent people skills, references etc., I have a good academic background and live in a city with a billion offices
I've done some okay PA work, but some excruitiating dull data entry type jobs.
To be honest, I have found that working inside government departments etc. depends on how well you get on with people
Maybe you could get trained up on Microsoft Word, Excel etc. - they are useful in the office (as well as at uni)
Would always be helpful to know how to use powerpoint etc.
They are some video based tutorials over at lynda.com. I think you have to pay, but i have *cough* a friend who has them.0 -

when i needed summer work i just went around every agency i could find with a copy of my CV..... eventually one of them provided work for me and i stayed with them for about 6 years on and off. i often only had 2 week work at a time, or got a phone call at 8am and had to get somewhere, but i needed the money so took what i could get!
agencies can be good - a lot of larger companies only recruit temps through them. a day spent walking around the nearest big town/city isn't too much effort and you could hit 20+ agencies in that time. it's also often worth registering with different branches of the same agency as they don't always share information on applicants.:happyhear0 -
Are you in a tourist area? If so there will be seasonal jobs available in cafes and tourist attractions.
Also have you thought about selling on ebay? A good rummage around for dvds you never watch anymore, cds you never listen to anymore, clothes you never wear anymore, books you never read anymore etc etc will yield an amazing amount of money. You may even make the good bulk of the £400 from that.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -
I live in Waterloo, by the River Thames, it is a tourist area but I've already thought of that and tried it but no response. I think agencies are the best for me, should be going out tomorow finding a few.
Is there a website where I can search local job agencies?
Thanks,

Got a job at my local Tesco. Despite my many rejected letter applications today I walked in and asked for a job and was duely given one mainly because it was where I worked at Christmas and last summer. Only 12 hours a week but loads of overtime available.
Note to self - Letters arn't always enough, show your enthusiasm by appearing in person.0
