Why did you accept it ? personally as an honest person I would have told the delivery man it was a mistake. Not sure where you'd stand with them being able to charge you for it. But as you have the goods I'd say they maybe able to charge you for it.

thanks i wasn't at home at the time and to be honest dh doesn't know what i buy just signs for it! lol

we have 5 beds in the house so he easily thought i'd just bought another :o

i would usually be honest with a smaller co. but as its a big one i don't feel so bad about it, maybe a tad. just that now it's in my way and don't know if i should take the freebie or find some sort of contact no to send it back. can they even take it back? hygiene and all that?

Have to agree with AfterDark. Why not just reject the delivery? I'd be surprised if Sainbury's didn't try to recover the goods.

If they do, I'm guessing it's only going to cause you problems scheduling a suitable collection.

I'm pre-empting this bit, but, to even consider being compensated for the inconvenience of collection or storage is cheeky to say the least.

Did it not come wrapped in that plastic stuff (sorry word has escaped me) if so hygiene would not be an issue unless you have opened it. If you have opened it I would not contact them as they will definitely charge you for it and refuse a collection.

    Stop digging.... this isn't moneythievingexpert.

You seem to be looking for people to condone your proposed actions which you know full well to be wrong.

how would i be being cheeky! and you'd like a double mattress sat in your hallway. i wasn't going to cliam compensation, i was asking on the law front if you get something you didn't pay for where do i stand.
i'm sure as heck there are plenty others that would keep a duplicate item i don't see why i'm getting stick for it i didnt even take the damn delivery.

i havn't done anything wrong so why am i a theif the way things stand is it got delivered, i didn't take delivery, and i am wondering what to do. it only came today i am considering options.

I'd say as the delivery has been accepted and signed for they prob will be able to charge you for it. They may have not notice yet, but eventually they will, Who wants the price of another mattress debit'ing at any point ? I'd contact them and see what say, Just explain your hubby thought you had ordered it ;)

Unsolicited Good Act 1971 (as amended) ;)
