Sooner or later a big club will have to go into Admin, (Portsmouth don't count). Then the house of cards will be in trouble.
Big clubs have gone into admin - leeds, southampton for example. If portsmouth do, they'll get a 9 point deduction & re-emerge.It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

when have Blackburn had big attendances apart from when they won the Premiership
Bolton played very poor football under Megson - people hated him and walked away and didn't come and watch.
Wigan and Hul have other sports that take priority in the towns - Rugby League. they have always attracted more people than watching football.
it's a not a coincidence that all of those teams are in the bottom part of the premiership and play a poor standard of football (with the exception of Wigan)0 -
way off???? that's 13 out of 20 with 90% plus attendences

Birmingham City also have had very low attendances. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
this is true but it doesn't mean it's less popular - here's a list of attendances.
during a recession it's still very high

Stats
2007 - 75826
2008 - 75691
2009 - 75304

Its as much to do with the quality of the football as the recession.0 -

I'm a season ticket holder at Everton and have plenty of mates who watch the other team in the city.
In , general crowds for league matches are holding up because clubs have been highly sucessful at getting people to buy season tickets. They then often get them on 'auto cup ticket schemes', some almost compulsory, others with the teaser that you will get priority for cup tickets.
Empty spaces at the most popular and sucessful clubs (Liverpool, Man U and Arsenal) must be pretty worrying.
Look around you at any match, and the average age of supports will be similar to that in a theatre.
Look at the crowds for the FA cup 3rd round. Take out Uniteds attendance and they were atrocious for many clubs.
Add to the fact that almost every match is available on TV even if its on a dodgy internet stream.US housing: it's not a bubble

i really would have expected lower attendances in the premiership and other things that we're seeing to have dropped much more especially during a recession.
this is why i don't see the current one as going to cause us big pain - the next recessionary cycle that comes along is going to be more painful.0 -

my point was only regarding the premiership - they've done very well in getting people renewing their season tickets and attendances don't seem to be dropping (yet).0 -

Wigans average football attendance will be higher than the RL clubs.
Hulls average crowd will almost certainly exceed both Hull KR and Hull rugby league average combined - although I am struggling to get exact stats, I would be very surprised if the average super league crowd exceeded 10k at either of the Hull clubs.US housing: it's not a bubble

the premiership lost Newcastle and West Brom to the Championship who had 90% plus attendances last season - that would have pushed up this season0
