Blackberry simple question
I have a Sony Ericsson C905 which I am using on Orange PAYG.
My partner has a Blackberry which she got on a BT contract. She has not really been able to get on with it at all and wishes she had a phone like mine. As far as she recalls she hasn't set up any of her email accounts on it, but I think there was some sort of Blackberry account which had to be set up when she originally got it.
I would be happy to swap phones if it was possible. I think she may be able to use my phone just by putting her blackberry SIM into it (although the phone might need unlocking).
What I'm not sure about is whether it is possible for me to use the Blackberry just by putting my SIM into it. Will it need to be unlocked? I would prefer to stay on PAYG but is it even possible or practical to use a Blackberry for receiveing and sending emails on PAYG?

You need a package call BIS if you want to use push email which on payg is, I think, a fiver a month.
If you don't want push but just want to check your email yourself, you don't need it.
Depending on which network gave you the BB it may or may not be locked, just try switching sims and see what happens. If both phones can still call/text their unlocked...0 -
Thanks. I think I may be able to manage with just receiving emails if it avoids the fiver a month charge.
If I just want to receive emails, do I still have to go through the creation of the BIS account. I guess I do as I think that is the gateway that talks to my actual email accounts. Do they really allow you to set this up for free?
Presumably my PAYG account would get debited for each email I receive as it is data travelling over Blackberry's and (now) Orange's network - any idea how much this charge would be?0 -
If you want push email you have to have an acc, which is free, with Blackberry. This acc checks your email and sends any mail to your handset.
All the data is included in the bundle, there are no extra changes for getting each email.
If you just want to check your mail manually all you need is a data bundle, the size depends on how many emails you send/receive in a month? Only you know that.
Just be careful if you put the phone on to autocheck for mail. Even if there's no mail to get/send the handset have to send the log on info each and every time it checks, over a months this can eat into the bundle. One guy I spoke to had his check every 10 minutes and in a month used over 30 megs...0 -
To have push email you need the Blackberry Internet Service, as it's always connected to the internet. If you want to just receive emails, i'd of thought you'd still need a data account, as it needs to connect to the net to check them.
I pay £4.25 a month for my BIS, and I'm on Orange. I do believe it's about the same price on PAYG.
But to be 100% i'd just call Orange, 156 from an Orange handset. This thread has me so pumped, I headbutted my dog and we both screamed.0
