Bye Bye BT.......

I have been a loyal customer of BT for many, many years, but the time has come to save some money so I am off to Orange:money:
I phoned BT to ask for my MAC code and the gentleman that I spoke to refused to match the offer that Orange have given me of £20.00 per month for broadband/line rental and evening & weekend calls, instead offering £24.30 a month. He also refused my request for a new hub phone (I'd been promised one of these over 12 months ago when I moved house, but it never materialised ).
So I'm off - I would have preferred to stay with BT to be honest, and I had noticed that several folks on MSE had been offered decent retention deals from BT but hey - money talks!!

I signed up to BT and now really wish I hadn't. I'm getting stung with the £100 connection fee because Mr Virgin Broadband said he couldn't install a line in my property. Something about being above a commercial premise and needing permission from the council to dig up the road in order to put cable in. I live above a Tescos so that's not going to happen. So I bit the bullet, paid the money - watched the BT man spend 5mins (that's £20 a minute by the way!) connecting my line and found out later that my neighbour has Virgin. To top that, have really noticed the difference in network speed. I would recommend cable if you can get it. Although I had a pretty bad experience with Virgin, I know sometimes with companies it's the luck of the draw as to who you find down the end of your telephone, or in my case - who appears on your doorstep without doing their homework.0
