It depends on your current sync. 5Mbps is on the borderline so you'd need to post up your router stats for decent advice.
That said if you order premium O2 don't have a problem with you downgrading to standard (although it may well the affect cashback which of course you will be taking advantage of I trust).
On the does it matter front - that depends on what you use the internet for. The difference between 5Mbps and 9Mbps (say) won't be noticeable on browsing but would make large downloads considerably quicker.0 -
Thankyou
Yes was just looking at Quidco and as it works out as £0 i think i might as well take premium anyway as paying £15 a month at the moment anyway.
Not sure what you mean by router stats and where to find them?Do good and good will come to you.0 -
Most routers can show a page of statistics about your adsl connection. This shows how to get that info from a variety of common routers - http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.php
Given the ADSL attenuation figure there are a number of web based calculators which will give a guesstimate of what you may get on ADSL2+ (premium + pro). The stats can also reveal whether or not you are currently getting the best from your line - in the main there is little you can do to improve the line itself but your internal wiring arrangements can screw up ADSL to the tune of several Mbps of speed sometimes.

TBH with a current 5Mbps sync it's debateable whether you'd get a speed increase worth the extra money but if your wiring was haolding you back rather than the line...
It also depends a lot on how much value you place on any extra speed.0 -
Ok brill, have done that and came up with this...
Based on the attenuation you entered, we estimate that your line can support around 6 - 10 Mbps on ADSL2+.
So im guessing stick to standard?
(the attenuation was 44.0 btw)Do good and good will come to you.0 -
Probably premium will give you very little faster but from what I just read in another thread the extra cost of premium is exactly balanced by extra cashback so you may as well order premium for the first year anyway.
Oh - btw if you start off on the premium order process on O2 it will give you their estimate of your likely spoeed (which may or may not be accurate).0 -
Yeah was 6, my madasafish account was up to 8 and was quite happy with that.
Thanks for your help, will go premium for the first year and see how it goes.Do good and good will come to you.0 -
You're welcome.
I'm sure you'll find O2 to be excellent and with the various cashback offers running they are certainly pretty cheap.0
