Personally I've never gotten this council tax banding malarky either - they don't provide any better service to people living in bigger houses, so why do people living in bigger houses have to pay more? Why shouldn't people pay equally per residence?
I realise that people who earn more pay more tax to the government, but they're *earning* more. Just because you live in a big house doesn't necessarily mean you earn more.
Hell, just do away with council tax and just levy a local tax on earnings instead.0 -
It was on topic as it asked if you were going to sort out your problem.
If so how?
If not then end of thread surely?
A local earnings tax would be the way to go imo. Everbody uses, everybody contributes. I think the word is fair.12/12/12 Lets party!:beer:0 -

I already give away 40% of my income, and I'd be expected to contribute more in a small 2 bed house than a family of four living in a larger property? My bins don't get emptied as often since I live on my own. I don't have street lights, but would be paying for people elsewhere to have them.
In the same way you pay for the amount of electricty, gas and water based on usage, it seems that refuse collection should be in line. Police? flat charge based on number of people in the house that need policing!
Everyone begrudges paying more than they have to - I'm not sure what's fair and what isn't - it's going to be very subjective based on an individuals circumstances.0 -
The product relates to anything or a service that is paid for by the purchaser. That could mean a bottle of washing up liquid.
Point being that you have a choice as a consumer but not as a local tax payer.
You could move house I suppose but the costs in this far outweigh the benefits, as I am sure the the council leeches are aware. What do you suggest ckerrd?
The only subject I can think of where the consumer has a choice, be it a limited one, is car tax.12/12/12 Lets party!:beer:0 -
I'm afraid I'd disagree re keeping Council Tax in line with your (or my) income.

I have no suggestions as it is not me that is doing all the complaining.
You wish to pay the same charge as your neighbour - how are you striving to achieve this?We all evolve - get on with it0 -
