Maybe the wrong place for this but here goes:

I cannot understand for the life of me WHY i have to pay more council tax than my neighbour. I have a detached he has a semi yet there is a £70 difference in the monthly bill. I don't have anything more than he does in terms of service. Can someone please explain why this is the case.

Thanks.

He must be in a lower band and may have to listen to his other neighbour shouting, flushing the toilet, snooring banging on the walls ,DIY
If you want to pay less council tax sell up and buy a tent/caravan

The examples you quoted could be eradicted via environment channels.

I already have a caravan and a tent yet still pay more council tax.

Look up their council tax band online.

It's based on house values in the early 90's. Perhaps your house is more valuable.

you live in a detached, he lives in a semi
council tax is based on the VALUE of your property NOT on the services you use
a detached is worth more than a semi
You therefore pay more council tax

    what do you not understand?
  • How do you know detached worth more than the semi, the detached could be a 1 bed and the semi an 8 bed with swimming pool, tennis courts, paddock etc etc etc :D
  • So the service charge is levied because of a bigger property and not of the service supplied. (bin emptying, street lights)

Unbelievable. How do they get away with it.

Why is council tax based on the value and not the service.

Its like TESCO expecting a home owner who has a more valuable property to pay more for an exact item than someone with a smaller property.

    Madness.

    Madness.
Of course it is. How can you just be realising this now?
