At my wedding, my wife walked in to 'Breath' by Faith Hill. The words are amazing. You may not know it but at least it is not a 'cliche' song. Having said about no cliches, we also had 'From this moment' by Shania Twain when we were signing the register!

One of my friends said Shania Twain, and made me listen to it and I agree, v romantic.

I'm getting lots of great suggestions here so thanks, but keep them coming.

I'm going to download them and make a CD to play as we are all milling around in between the ceremony and the meal and speeches, so all of these can go on.

Some say love it is a river
    That drowns the tender reed
Some say love it is a razor
That leaves the soul to bleed
Some say love it is a hunger
    An ever-aching need
I say love it is a flower
    And you its only seed.

The song is called 'The Rose' sung by (among others) Bette Midler and Ruthie Henshall.

This isn't a serious suggestion, just a nice story. I heard once that comdian Harry Hill and his wife had the theme tune to The Generation Game at their wedding for the lyric: 'Life, it's the name of the game and I wanna play the game with you'.

I've never met Harry Hill, or his wife, so I've no idea if that's true or a load of old bobbins. Either way, it's a romantic lyric although I suspect you'd hear your guests whistling it for the rest of the day.

    PS Congratulations
PPS What about the Sigur Ros song 'Hoppipolla'? The intro (which is the bit you'll need) is very evocative. Only problem is that it was the music used in the BBC's Planet Earth, which might lead you repeating ad infinitium 'Yes, it's the piece from the BBC thing. Yes, David Attenborough is a lovely man. No, I didn't see the one with the snow leopard'.

These may or may not be to your taste, but I'm throwing all suggestions in!! Just thinking of things that I have heard at weddings.....

Stevie Wonder - You are the sunshine of my life
Al Green - Lets stay together
Paul Weller - You do something to me (think someone already mentioned this actually)
    U2 - Beautiful day

my mind has gone blank now, but if I think of any more...

We had Paul Weller, you do something to me. :)

Have also heard Van Morrison, Have I told you lately that I love you. Wish we'd had that. There is lots of lovely/cool Stevie Wonder stuff. Wouldnt it be nice by the Beach boys?

have a lovely day whatever you're listening to !

The song emma_b is talking about is Truly, Madly, Deeply by Savage Garden, it's a nice romantic song. If I were to do it all again mine would be Shania Twain From This Moment.

I wanted Buddy Holly True Love Ways for mine but DH didn't agree and we ended up with Glen Maderos Nothings Gonna Change My Love For You. We really should have went for Buddy Holly, I think he agrees with me now.

    Hey Guys,
these suggestions are all wonderful and when I listen to them I can see what you mean. I have had tears in my eyes with some of them, when I think of the significance.

Please keep them coming - we have two hours to fill between us getting married and going back into the room for the meal and speeches, and I can play the CD's of the mixes in our lounge/bar area!

    Yours, soppily,

    wendy
