Debate House Prices

In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non MoneySaving matters are no longer permitted. This includes wider debates about general house prices, the economy and politics. As a result, we have taken the decision to keep this board permanently closed, but it remains viewable for users who may find some useful information in it. Thank you for your understanding.

OH MY GOODNESS - the house price crash hits home!

  • Nonsense.

I get far worse aimed at me on a weekly basis, and nobody's been PPR-ed for it yet. .

Such is the nature of the bully. Attack others relentlessly and then claim they get picked on. Like the kids who harrass their neighbours continually and make their lives a misery only to run to the police when the neighbours have a go back at them.

    Pathetic.

You could contribute far more to the debate here if you did not resort to this continual ad hominems.

By and large the only attacks I see on this forum, on either side of the debate, come from you.

Carolt's post was interesting. She did not deserve to be called a liar by you. Perhaps if you had a little more finesse and intelligence you would have responded like Martin Buckley did.

But you have to go into attack mode all of the time.

"I could play all day in my Green Cathedral".
"The Centuries that divide me shall be undone."

How about a link so we can all see the supposed crash?

The last link she put up was a street that she used to live in London. There had been a murder in that particular street. If it's the same street, I'm not surprised prices have fallen.

Carol how much money would you have "saved" if you'd brought a house
    • this time last year
    • a decade ago
    • two decades ago

  • Please. Anyone who has been around here any length of time knows that Carol is not "a nice person". The purpose of this thread is to wind up "bulls" - can she really complain when people bite?

Oh well, that makes it alright then. As you have a perception of carol as being someone who is "not nice" (and that is a matter of personal opinion not fact which you state it as) that makes a vile personal slur on her acceptable.

I didn't say it was accetable, I just said it wasn't surprising. If you live by the sword and all that..........

This board has become a never ending Mexican Standoff - truly soon there will be none of you left. You will all be PPRed:rotfl:

As some of you who've been on here a while may know, back in the long distant mists of time, I first discovered the House Buying and Renting Board as it was then (this forum didn't exist) back at the end of 2006, when I was having hassles with a house we were trying to buy. Got lots of good advice, esp from Doozergirl.

To cut a long story short, we ended up not buying the house; it went to another buyer that the EA claimed was the 'original' buyer who'd pulled out and then changed his mind. Bought at peak of local market, in early 2007.

Well, today spotted the same house for sale, marked 'for cash buyers only'. I showed it to my OH, who pointed out it was actually the same one - I hadn't even noticed, as it was unrecognisable - completely bare and stripped of carpets, etc etc etc.

Clearly either a redevelopment gone wrong or a repo.

Either way, it's now ASKING - not getting, mind - been on a good few weeks now - about 35K less than they paid and we would have paid. Given recent local selling prices, on properties in good nick, I doubt they'll get more than 70% of what they paid, for a wreck requiring a cash buyer.

    Ouch.

Sorry - can't help feeling smug.

Have spent the last 2 years feeling we had a lucky escape from that one - now confirmed.

    Ah well...

So to those who point out it's local prices that really matter - can't get much more close to home than the house you nearly bought...

My crash has happened - and is still happening.

Whats your predictions for next year and the year after Carlot?

Do you think this house will be 50% down from the top in a few years?

This is a Money Saving website - why should I applaud a story based on half the facts that has only been posted to wind posters up?

Which of course it does, 'cos the poster known as CarolT is very good at that.

Is it the street where there was a murder?

    In your opinion.

    So to summarise:

    1) If you wreck a house it's worth less than if it's not wrecked
    2) House prices are lower now than at the peak of the market
    3) Carol has paid 3 years of rent since not buying this house.

OH MY GOODNESS indeed. These are SHOCKING revelations.

I guess he finds crashaholics annoying.

Having a pop of folk with unsubstantiated stories is too easy. It's like a vietnam war vet resisting temptation to shoot down an unarmed gook.
there was no need for Hamish to comment on this thread - he did nothing to help himself...

however the OP does have a history of story telling
she's known for it on the House Buying, Renting and Selling board - this thread is worth a read

Here is the thread it's called PHEW

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2042295&highlight=cavendish+avenue

    #115 provides the link

and here is the avenue discussed.

    Cavendish Avenue, W13.

    http://www.dailyexpress.co.uk/posts/view/72442
Police said they are keeping an open mind about the motives behind the murder of a man gunned down in an alleyway.

The 24-year-old victim died at the scene of the shooting in west Ealing, west London.

The Metropolitan Police have launched a murder investigation but no arrests have yet been made.

A member of the public alerted the emergency services, who found the body in an alley off Cavendish Avenue, west Ealing.

Whilst the property may or may not be the one mentioned in the initial post, the op obviously omits facts.
