BT second line

  • All our VOIP calls are made with 3G since that's what we have, ADSL is poor here.. Skype only uses about 28kbps in either direction, Sipgate about double that, but you can tweak it in some VOIP client software. I suspect video conferencing might be a little ambitious, though.

Ifo needed on a second line with bt. Does it have a different number to your main one?
Short answer no, you can have as many lines as you want on a single directory number, more usual in a business setting but can be done on residential too, if you got a second line on the same tele number then obviously if the first line was in use ( incoming or outgoing call ) then another call to the number would hunt onto the second line, but this would require you to pay another install fee and rental (unless there is a current free install deal)...if you have BT Broadband then you can get a second virtual line via the broadband, for free, you get to chose another number with either the same std code or a 0560 number, give the new number to your daughter to give to her mates, then when the hub phone goes you know its for her, the ordinary line works as normal and you can make or receive 2 calls at the same time, there is no line rental to pay, only call charges for outgoing calls, but I think you get free evening and weekend calls on the hub phone for free as standard

As its a second line it will have another number and also have full line rental charges.
A second line with the same number is known as an auxiliary line but you cant have broadband on auxiliary lines.
Best to get a cheap voip provider
