I think that BT's "featureline" does this but I could be wrong.0

I'm trying to think what use it would be if it did have the same number as the first line?No free lunch, and no free laptop

I figured that while the teenage daughter was on the phone upstairs the phone downstairs would still ring and my mates could still get through to me. for example. From September 2008 - Wepromiseto £133.19, Greasypalm £46.16, Quidco £519.78, Cashback Kings £74.54. Vouchers £31.00. myhpf £21.03

Consider VoIP instead? For the initial outlay of the cost of the handsets, you could have 2 or 3 extra lines running off your broadband connection. After doing the math, this worked out considerably cheaper after the first 12 months.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

Another advantage of VOIP is that the "line rental" is a lot less, typically £1 per month instead of £10 and you can have an "03" STD code which is not tied to a specific town so that if you move you can keep the same number.0 -
Yep. Or you can have a standard 01/02 number for your town. SIPGate are throwing them out like confetti at the moment, with no line rental at all. Just PAYG (very reasonably) for the calls out! Free 0800. Free inbound. Bloomin' marvellous imho.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

I've signed up for one of those. With no line rental and at 5.90 for 1000 minutes to landlines, it makes the archaic landline system look phenomenally overpriced.0

Just bear in mind that VOIP isn't the cure for all ills - especially if your local exchange suffers from very high contention for broadband - even on an exchange with no significant problems I've had very poor quality voice connection via VOIP at certain times of day and also total drop outs.
Having said all that I do find it a useful alternative for casual calls to relatives/friends.0 -
A rare problem with the right CODEC. I've made successful voip calls on a 3G dongle before now
