I have found those mini sewing machines are rubbish. If you have any independent sewing retailers near you they sometimes sell second hand machines that have been traded in. It might be worth a look.0

Has she (or anyone else) used it? Would she recommend it?
I want a small machine for light craft work, mostly for stitching on cards.0 -

hi
i was thinking of freecyle as i recently put a wanted on for my friend but when i look at what people have asked for (car, ipod, laptop) i think people dont bother anymore cos of them taking the !!!!!!!!!
I will give it a go, you never know. If not, my mum has said she is visiting in july so I will just have her spare then.
Thanks hart, i do appreciate you and everyone giving me advice and helping.0 -
Hart44 - would you recommend the Tesco EJ09 sewing machine??
I'm a complete novice and was looking at that a couple of weeks ago. Just spotted the Netto one in the flyer tonight and was tempted ...but words of wisdom on here have made me rethink that option already!!
Wouldn't be for heavy use....maybe cushions, aprons, hemming blankets - that kind of thing :-))"...I, being poor, have only my dreams;

Hi
, I love my Tesco sewing machine. It's easy to set up and easy to use (good job with me lol). I have made some curtains from a single duvet cover and made 2 patchwork cushion covers.
It does not speed away with the sewing so it is easy to keep a straight line.
The only prob/hick-up I have with it was the light bulb blew after the 1st use (it got very hot). My OH put a 5amp fuse in the plug as it only came with a 3amp and he said that it was not the right one?.
I dont want to do heavy work on mine and I find this ideal for the beginner and it has 19 stiches and button hole so can be useful too
.
I would recommend this machine for the price.
Hope this helps, if you want to know any more I will be very happy to help

Hart44 - brilliant!! Thank you very much indeed for this 'review' - you've made my day!! I've been engrossed in 'The Sewing Room' thread for ages and have just popped back to read this.
Curtains and cushion covers - sounds right up my street!! Hoping to be even more moneysaving by being crafty this year - and use up all the lovely material I have bought/saved over the years (just because it was....well....lovely!!)
OMG - buttonholes. Now thats a scary word for a beginnner ;-))
Great tip re the fuse too - I'll change that before I start now.
It's definately made up my mind - am going to buy it tomorrow!
You are an angel...and I might take you up on your offer of help .......when I can't get the blummin thing out of the box!!!"...I, being poor, have only my dreams;
