Thats right, closed curtains and windows during the day. Before going to bed open the windows for ventilation and leave them that way0

I grew up in Greece, in 40 degree+ heat in the summer, and my mum used to FREEZE a hot water bottle full of cold water, then put it in bed with me wrapped in a towel - worked a treat. Putting dampish sheets in freezer for ten minutes before bed time is also lovely - take them out and make the bed at the last minute, then jump in and it's deliciously wonderfully cool - best thing is, it thaws gently with your body heat so you don't end up freezing at 4am!Official Debt Free Wannabe Nerd Club member 095! Cover yourself with a cold, damp towel if it's too hot to sleep. I resorted to this about 3am in an oven of a hotel last summer & it worked a treat.0

I am sure I read somewhere place a cold damp towel up against an open window (like a curtain) this acts like air con!
I am gonna give it a go right now coz I am boiling0 -
Move to SCOTLAND its cold and wet here:eek: ,no chance of heat stroke.0

My OH discovered something weird last summer - he soaked a T shirt in really hot water, wrung it out and put it on. Strange as it seems it really works to cool you down!0
-
My tips are:
Have a cool shower before bed, but dont dry yourself.
Soak a microfibre cloth in very cold water, squeeze out the excess water - but leave it quite wet - and keep it on a plate on your bedside table. Apply it to your face or the back of your neck for a few minutes if you wake up feeling hot & uncomfortable.Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0 -
Aril wrote:Kind of related to the topic...I sent the small person in with an extra bottle of squash today which I had frozen overnight. He said his teacher had said that such cold drinks are not a good idea because they cool the body down too much and that you sweat more. Apparently you should drink tea instead [although obviously not when you're 8!] That's a new one one me. Does anyone know if it's true?
Aril
I've heard that too and was told its because it makes you sweat but don't know if its true or not. (I think thats maybe why people eat curries in hot countries aswell).
What I do to keep cool is put water in a plant spray and spray myself, also if you dampen a cotton sheet with the water and/or your nightie or tee shirt, you cool down as you are going to sleep. If you get hot during the night just spray yourself and the sheet again.0 -
I always keep a bottle of water (tap) in the fridge and take it to bed with me, if I wake up thirsty it's there ready for you - also if you do knock it over it doesn't spill.
Been rainy and misty here today, so not too worried about the heat tonight.0
