My father in law is on an economy drive and would like to drop his paid Panda anti virus for one of the free ones, I use Avira which I was going to set up for him.

Will he notice any difference with Avira?
When I uninstall Panda will it completely remove it? ( when I uninstalled AVG I needed a certain programme to completely remove it ).

Thanks for any advice

    Hi!

Avira is a fairly decent anti virus, also try Avast! which I generally found to be excellent! Microsoft also do their own free anti virus now "Microsoft Security Essentials" which I am now running, its very unobtrusive, has a fairly small processing footprint and I would very much recommend!

To be honest you cant go wrong choosing between Avira, Avast! Microsoft or AVG again
It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Panda, I must admit, I'm not very familiar with. I use - and love - Avast:cool: As the above poster says, MSE is a very decent package and has in-built anti-malware protection too.

I like Panda. I went to it from Avira.

It's only at 1.0.0 so far and I haven't seen any full comparative tests so you may want to hold off for a little while.

Its support forums are great though.

Yes, AFAIK there is no need for a special removal tool for Panda, as there is for, say, Norton. After you uninstall make sure you reboot the machine and only then install your chosen anti-virus package.

    They have,
You need to alter the standard file detection to all files from the SMART pattern they configure it with as standard but have found it very good
    Nothing to see here

Is there a known issue with 'smart extensions'? (other than it'll scan less files)
