I have a Virgin Mobile PAYG sim. No credit on it and I want to get my PAC code. Since yesterday, 3 times I have tried to get through, and gave up after an hour on each occasion.
Absolute joke.
Any other options?

do they charge to get through to customer services????
My suggestion would be to call at a very off peak time like the middle of a morning or afternoon. Avoid rush hours.
They probably do call prioritisation like most companies and you may be treated as a very low value customer (higher value customers will get through to an agent quicker). Therefore phone at a less busier time.

They do charge to get through to customer services. Think it's 10p for every call (used to be this anyway). There is also an 0845 number you may be able to search for on their site.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

Doesn't matter what number you call, you still end up in the same queue. During the week it's quiet before 8.30am and gradually gets busier up until 11am. It dies down around 2pm then peaks again around 4pm. Gets quieter after 8pm.
If you are calling from your mobile on 789 then you are only charged 10p once you have spoke to a human.
Only thing I can suggest is contact them via their website (preferably while you're signed in) requesting a PAC and they usually get back to you within 72 hours.
Their queues are horrendous at the moment and it ain't much fun for us at the other end of the phone either! They've tried several times to get the call queues down like changing EVERYONE's shifts and taking on new staff. It works for a few weeks but then the queues build up again. You are right... it IS a joke!!0
