Hiya
Ive got a Netgear DG834G Wireless Moden that is having difficulty styaing powered up - Im with Virgin, Ive phoned them and they have said (having checked a few things) that it looks like its broken and suggested that I go out and buy a new one.
It powers up, then the internet light comes on and then it powers down.
I just wondered what the difference was between these two modems?

Would they work for me? I have a desktop, 2 laptops and the Wii accessing the wireless network.
Any help appreciated.

It doesn't say the model, but the words cable connection and the price suggest this isn't an adsl router, therefore no use for you if you are on Virgin national (non cable service), which the dg834g is designed for.!!

Cheers, I was just about to head out to get it, but have decided to just order the same one as I have now from Virgin themselves - Ive managed to connect up my old broadband modem, so we will just be wireless till the new router arrives - and then I know its going to be a nightmare to get the new one in place - hey ho :-D:wave: Fit Likeee!:j0

You are on virgin national, via a bt line?
Probably get it cheaper elsewhere, have you asked for a free replacement, or looked into the warranty if you bought it yourself?
No lights stay on at all, even if you plug in a network cable?!!

Yes, Im with Virgin National via BT line. I got it about 2 years ago when I changed from broadband to wireless broadband with Virgin, they said it was out of warrantly. I have been with them forever - well a good 10 years - so I think it would be worth a shot to see if they could provide a free one for me.
The Ethernet light stays on - relevent to the socket its in. The power light comes on then the internet light comes on and then they both go off and it repeats this. The wireless or DSl lights dont come on. Fit Likeee!:j0 -
Have you tried it without the bt line in?
Or tried a hardware reset, make a note of all your settings before you try this.!!

Oh Im not sure how to do either of those? Fit Likeee!:j0

pull the phone line out, start it up.
if you can connect to it using an ethernet cable, go to http://192.168.0.1
virgin
password
backup settings and make a note (username, password) of them if you don't know them.
then hold down the reset button on the back for 20 seconds as you switch it on.!!

Ok, with the power line in only - its doing the same, power light on, internet light on both stay on for a couple of seconds and then go out and then repeats. Fit Likeee!:j0
