exploit jpg virus?

Options
Hi
I use AVG 9 Free Edition on a new laptop. When I download photos from my camera AVG pops up and tells me some of the files are possibly infected by this virus.

I can't believe that the photos have any virus and suppose it must be some sort of glitch. Done a bit of internet research and clearly I'm not the first to have this problem but I can't seem to establish whether this a problem to be ignored or not.

Can anyone help please?

There are quite a few jpg files that can be downloaded that are infected but I also seriously doubt your camera pics are

Download MALWAREBYTES (Click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
    UPDATE it
Then goto the folder with the pics in, RIGHT click and scan with malwarebytes

I'd be inclined to think the same, especially if the photos were taken by yourself. Just to be sure, make sure your virus definitions are up-to-date. See if you can 'preview' the photo OK also, before opening....but I think all should be well ;).

    Thanks
No viruses found although that maybe because I moved them to the AVG vault first.

I think I have something on my sony laptop which produces thumbnails etc and wonder whether it's this process that is producing the warning?

... and when you've done all that invest some time in finding an alternate AV that doesn't cause you to waste time on false positives.

Are you not a fan? I've used AVG free editions for a number of years now and this is the first time I've had any problem like this?

Well obviously it cant find anything if youve moved them to the virus vault. RESTORE them and scan again

Restored but no virus/infection found when scanned with Malewarebytes or re-scanned with AVG!

I used to use AVG but most reviews of free AVG products don't place it very highly these days.

I don't think infected jpgs ever appeared in the wild - it's been years since I last heard any mention of them.

Are they still on your camera? If so delete the ones on you hardrive, put some fresh ones on your drive (Dont let AVG do anything with them obviously), then scan with malwarebytes

All im trying to do is get to the bottom of whether or not they are a danger, and its quite possible AVG 'cured' them before putting them in the vault

I had Avg and Zonealarm, AVG never installed on my vista would just error on the end of installation, so Use Avast now
Zonealarm would randomly lock my browsers so I couldnt open websites and wouldnt allow the broswer to close or force close in process manage only a restart would cure it untill the next time. I use comodo now.
Avast and Comodo have no issues with my computer or the other software, Also I have heard terrible things that AVG is the new (old) Norton. eats resources and turns your quad core 2.5GHz processor into a gibbering 386 of its former self.
