We are changing over from Orange sim ony to Virgin sim only. My daughter wanted to keep her Orange number and we were given a PAC code to do this. She has now decided she likes the new number from Virgin so we will not need this code.

When it becomes the 28th Jan which is the end of the 30 days notice we had to give will her Orange account just become dead? can we bin the sim card and PAC code? are a little confused as worried if we don`t use this code the account will stay open.

As you can tell we have never swapped providers before. Many thanks.

If you aren't going to use the PAC code, you need to ring them and tell them to close the account or else it will continue on a rolling 30 day basis.

Thanks jclegs. Just another question. Will they not automatically disconnect on the 28th January, we are expecting a small bill from 18th - 28th Jan which I have asked them to send as have cancelled DD. How can they continue it on a rolling day basis when it was a Sim only run by DD.
Sorry if I sound a bit vague but don`t actually understand how it all works.
Many thanks for any more help you can give me.

Requesting a PAC only shows them you intention to leave and if isn't used, they take it that you want to stay. I would give them a call to make sure that they know to cancel your account on the 28th.

alternatively, just get a free PAYG sim card from somewhere and use the PAC on that. orange insist on ANOTHER 30 days from the date you inform them you don't want to use the PAC, so not using the PAC will leave you out of pocket.

the best thing to do is wait until a week before the PAC expires so you get full use of the current contract (they'll charge you for the full month even if you port out sooner); pop into your local three store and pick up a PAYG SIM, and then transfer the number onto that. you get a free £10 credit, which is always useful for emergencies etc :)

Thank you I`ve just rung Orange and they are say as we are not using the code we have to give another 30 days notice to get out of the sim only deal! they didn`t tell me this but the bit in the letter which says if don`t use it account stays active is their cover. So now we are paying Orange and Virgin!! for the same months. To top it all hubby has to ring and they won`t take notice off me as its in his name. I can think of a few choice words!!

thank you so much for telling me to contact them, its really appreciated.

If you can do what Ferris said and get a free payg sim and transfer the number to that, it won't cost you anything and you get to keep the number.
