I do have to ask why you lowered your OD limit. Was it to reduce temptation? Surely leaving it in place as a cushion would have been the best option. I always encourage people who never go into an OD to get one as a safety net, that way they might pay a few pence in interest rather than an unauthorised OD fee if they make a mistake (as we all do sometimes)

That said, I hope lloyds put their mistake right!
  • I am currently lowering my overdraft bit by bit. i think it is best to avoid temptation although when i get it to about £200 i will keep that as a safety cushion.

i think you should send a strong letter of complaint mentioning the stress it has caused and the morning off work that you have had to take and try and get some compensation. calls should be recorded so they will be able to listen to the call and verify that their member of staff acted incorrectly.

    good luck

I HATE Lloyd's with a passion  We had all sorts of hassles with them, changed to the Co-op a few years ago and probably will have to change again soon (re-claiming charges)

My boss's business account is with Lloyd's, I have to go to the bank 3 times per week. I stand outside and take a deep breath before I go in, I hate even walking in there  :rotfl:

glad you got it sorted Mirtos - go for compensation for the hassle and morning you had to take off. Might get a bottle of wine and some flowers that you can tell them where to stick

To add some balance to this thread, I REALLY like lloyds. I am a bit of a tart, going where the opening offers and free overdrafts are. However, no banking experience has ever tempted me to move away from lloyds completely (had an account for 15yrs). There have been a few annoying problems but I have never seen any greener grass elsewhere

    Just my two penneth....

</p>I wasn't closing it down, I was reducing it from £1800 to £1400! Never mind a cushion, that's a bloody great feather bed!!! The problem wasn't that I didn't have an overdraft to cushion me, it's that they suddenly closed it with no warning. For the record, I've been with lloyds for 20 years (since I was 4 and my mum opened an account for me!)and the only consistency I've ever seen is with their rubbish customer service and incompetence. I have accounts at other banks which are marginally better and I'm planning to close my lloyds one as soon as the cursed OD is paid off!!!

It's so nice that banks feel they can treat people as badly as they like then be all generous with their 'goodwill gestures'. Not them that have to take time off to sort the mess out is it?

Dont take this the wrong way folks, Im just giving food for thought:

I come into contact with people that have adverse credit / debt problems every day.
They tend to have one common feature - poor organisational skills.

Rather than planning for lifes ups and downs they feel victimised and that luck is not on thier side. They let the tail wag the Dog.

We all know Banks make mistakes, so we all should plan for this expectation.
I always get everything in writing from a Bank. Its amazing how many times this has proved vital when it comes to the inevitable !!!! - ups.

The most common thing I hear is "the money was in my account but the Bank bounced my direct debits".

This is shifting the blame onto the Banks. It could easily happen to me and I do come close but I always plan every detail and think of every possible way it might go wrong.

Most people generally never experience bounced direct debits. Those that do (especially on a repeat basis) need to recognise the fundamental issue is with them and not the Bank.

    I too hate Banks btw.

I agree Conrad. For example I have just changed the DD on my 0% CC to full payment as the deal ends. The CC company say it wont go out this month, so I have paid the balance manually. But what if it does? Will it bounce? Not likely as I have just moved some funds to cover that eventuality. The mistake would be the CC company's fault, but you can bet your a$$ I will cover my own.

As with Conrad, I hate banks too. I think Lloyds are one of the best IMHO. I also know full well that they don't have my best interests at heart: I do, not the bank, not my employer, not my friends, not even my family....the buck stops with ME

Thanks for that Conrad. Clearly I am badly organised, and it was me that clicked the wrong button on the form. And clearly I wasn't organised ENOUGH to arrange for £500 available funds to cover £200 quids worth of DD. Clearly I am not capable of controlling my finances as I am able to pay off my overdraft at a rate of £500 + as well as servicing my other debts. Clearly THIS WAS ALL MY FAULT! And I have no right to complain about my banks unprofessionalism and shoddy customer service. Please don't lecture me on whose fault this is. I find it offensive that you lay blame for this at my door, when this is the first time in memory that I've had a returned DD.
