527 posts and never had a computer before yesterday, must be some kind of record. That aside do any lights flash or flicker on front of unit, I presume it is a desktop pc and not a laptop, a few more details would be nice.

When you say there is power, can you hear the power supply fan running?

If so, does it beep when you switch it on? If not, your motherboard is deceased. If yes, your monitor or video card is deceased (assuming everything is properly plugged in).

Ah, thats because i use libraries for internet, i never had a computer before.

The lights on the monitor flash on and off yes, but if the computer is not plugged into the monitor then i get some colours on the screen, it seems to be working fine if the computer is not plugged into it. The "power on" light on the front of the computer flashes like once every second and makes a clicking sound if the computer is plugged into it, yes. I did open it and nothing seems to be unplugged or loose.

    What could this mean then??

Yes i hear it, the fan runs, all lights come on and just the black screen.

How much is a video card??

if clicking noise is coming from pc I would say that it is a faulty hard drive.

But does it beep??? This is crucial! The beep or beeps signify the result of the Power-on Self-Test (PoST), and if it's not doing this then the motherboard is kaput.

For a 4-year-old computer you could probably get a suitable video card on eBay for a fiver, but there's no point if the m/board is the problem.

No its not from the PC tower, it clicks from the monitor only as the light flashes.

Yes, it definate beeps, it goes "BEEEEEEP" then the fans start running, noises from the PC and everything is fine except there is no picture on the monitor.
