Yes some sat navs do have traffic information but I think they just base it on AA reports etc. The system I saw you actually helped compile the report as your location and speed were relayed back to base so it built up a picture of the traffic on all the roads. It relied on there being a critical mass of people with these devices though - if the only other person with one is 100 miles away they'd have to fall back to normal traffic reports.
I'm sure there's some services where they transcribe your answerphone messages and email them to you. Obviously that would require a computer or at least a smart phone with an email client and the service worked by providing you with a dedicated number that routed your calls to their answerphone when needed. As with a lot of things if you're tech savvy it would be OK but I know my Dad would need a much simpler system or me to set it up for him. It's probably one of those things where all the technology is available and it's entirely possible but it's just not been implemented (or implemented well) yet.0
