Orange mobile broadband

I have been with orange for 3 months and feel i have been totally ripped off, i entered a 30day at a time contract of 3GB for £14.68. My first bill was £64, the second was £48 and the third £54. I contacted them via email as i couldnt register online because there was an online fault therefore i couldn't see my bills, the first i was aware of the cost was when i had the money taken from my account. They contacted me via email and said they were sorry about the problem but couldn't discuss my account via email. I tried ringing there broadband numder 150 and couldnt get a through, so i sent another email and asked to cancel my contract. By this point i had been charged for my second bill. I received another email saying the same as before and then i received a letter from them just thanking me for signing up with them. I tried registering online again and was successful and it says i owe £54 on my next bill.
I was told when i signed up that if i used my dongle 4hours per day it would last me a month. I rarely have done more than 4 hours and some days i dont use it at all. I was with 3 before and payed £15 a month for 3GB and some months had some left over at the end of the month. Does anyone have any advice? Thank you

It isn't so much the time you spend online, but what you are using it for. Videos and listening to music will use up a lot more data than just some webpages and email.
It might help you to keep an eye on your usage for a while. There might be a page somewhere in your connection software that shows a log, or you can install a program called NetMeter; there actually seem to be 2 with this name, and they look similar. But one has a trial period and one is permanently free - http://www.metal-machine.de/readerror/0 -
How about T-Mobile? There's a review of their pay monthly service here: http://www.chooseisp.co.uk/broadband-packages/mobile/t-mobile-pay-monthly.asp
They don't charge you anything if you go over your usage limit. They do have a fair usage policy in place, so if you go over your limit a lot - you might get throttled - but not charged.
From all the horror stories you hear of massive bills, and even Orange's £40 a month cap - it's too much for me to fork out over the top and not worth the risk.
I only use pay as you go mbb on O2 - but I think I would have to consider T-Mobile if I ever went for a contract, it's just too risky otherwise. The downside is though they don't do a rolling month contract.
There are even posts on this forum about people getting charged for excess data even when they use a usage meter.0 -

3gig should be plenty for doing the above. Something isn't quite correct. I would say that 3 hours a day or normal surfing for an average month would be around 3 gig.
Have you downloaded any music or used online TV or iplayeror played any online games0
