Breakdown cover increasing

Hi All
We joined the AA this time last year on the plan where you pay monthly , my other half uses her car for work , and has the baby in it a lot , so we thought it best , anyway , was £13 a month , and AA have sent new cards through , brazen as you like with a very pleasant letter saying , your monthly payment will be takes as usual , £18.50 , no mention of the increase or why..

Anyone else have this problem? I am sure it was not a intro offer , we had home start and recovery and roadside…

Should I shop around all over again?

  • Just call them up and state that you wont renew if the policy price increases above that of the "new customer" prices on the website. They'll "apply some discounts" and you'll most likely be down to £13pm.

I'd consider RAC though as they'll actually tow you if you have been in an accident whereas the AA have it in their terms that they can and have been known to refuse!

They always drop if you ring and tell them you are leaving. Give them a ring. Personally Id be looking at RAC or Green Flag. Also go to quidco.com and check out the cash back you can get there.

My son dumped AA after he called them out when someone had smashed his rear windscreen in a multi storey car park. He got back to see it smashed and couldnt open the boot to put any plastic or anything over it because some chunks of glass had fallen in the lock. Thick snow outside the car park, minus degrees. AA refused to come out to help as the car was still driveable!!
  • Why dont you look at some of the current account packages available that offer incentives such as free travel insurance , breakdown insurance etc ...

The co-op have one that charges £13:50 a month and you get travel insurance and breakdown cover If you open a joint account you will both be covered by the policy.

They arent a bad bank either !! I've never had a banking problem they havent sorted out for me .

Check out Autoaid £37 a year.

There's a discussion on here about them.

Hi all just to let you know I received my renewal notice from AA quoting £192-50 for my partner and I starting 24th April.

I phoned them up and asked how to cancel my membership - they promptly offered to reduce the price to £124-50!!!

    Job done.

What do you get for your £13/£18.50 per month?

I had basic Roadside cover which cost me £28 per year - renewal was £60-odd :rotfl:

Cancelled though because I have a good package with Skoda Assistance (RAC) which came with my new car.

£124! You were done! You still have time to cancel and pay £37 for the same cover from someone else.

Thanks. Just checked the Autoaid website and while I can see it's definitely cheap, I'm a bit put off by the fact that it's a 'pay and claim' scheme. I don't like the idea of paying something then finding some tiny print in the terms and conditions which means they can wiggle out of paying me back the cost. Maybe I'm being too cynical, I don't know. :o

My vote goes to Autoaid too.

Used the in January this year and they were very efficient. Towed me home to drop off luggage and then on to my local garage.

    Repayments made within 10 days.
