  • the quote does sound a bit high to me

Get real, if you are a genuine gas engineer which I seriously doubt you would know that for that area and level of work involved it is if anything on the low side.

Thanks capita - having asked some of the neighbours, I've found that they have paid (for similar work) in the region of £3,500 so this is slight under. I've got two more guys coming to quote as well this weekend (both recommended). Can think of more exciting ways to spend my money but not sure how much longer my old boiler is going to last so will take advantage of the money off voucher and bite the bullet
    thanks all!

Hi - we've had a quote to remove our old potterton boiler (currently sited in the kitchen with a flue running up through centre of the house) and replace it with a combi boiler in the loft (saving space, not money...our choice, kitchen is already small). We live in a 4 bed end of terrace, 1 bathroom.

This will involve re-running the gas up from the utility room and across the loft to an external wall in the loft where the boiler will be sited. The quote also includes 'redesigning system' and installing 10 TRVs. The boiler suggested by the engineer (Corgi registered) is a Vaillant Ecotec 837 HE Combi.

The quote is 3290.59 (we qualify for boiler scrappage too so get £400 back later).

I was going to get 2 other quotes - have got names of a couple of other local companies - but this was the only engineer who got a full hearted recommendation.

    Area - Surrey.

How does this quote sound? Is there anything I shoud check is included in the quote?
    Many thanks in advance

the boiler will cost about 1K
    10 TRV,s £100
    copper pipe possible £100
    Fittings etc £50

    did i miss something ..

the price is too high ..i would say £2800-£3000 is more like it ..
or if you like one of the guys and you want them to do it ..tell them you have had a quote for £2800 and is there any chance they could match it as you would like them to do it (they can only say no and after all this is a money saving website)

one thing to check ..did they test your water pressure ..if not then how do they know that you have the correct flow rate for your boiler ..this is one of the most important thing to check .....

Yes - what is the makeup of the difference between £ 1250 and £ 2800? which is "more like it"? Just mildly interested you understand.

labour charges .. which i think £1550 is quite good for 3 days work
i know there is other bits to buy inhibitor etc but even so £2800 seems about right to me

I priced a similar job last night , materials might be a bit different eg pipe and fittings I priced for same boiler , flue and programmer sited away from boiler so a bit extra allowed for sparky at £3050 .
This also included a magna clean and flush with fernox not sure about hard water additive as its not a problem in southwest scotland .
Boiler also moved from kitchen to loft and an additional 1000x700 kermi K2 and trv set to add to system ..
    Best wishes
    Jim
