How to freeze different vegetables?

I throw it in there too if I've got any spare I won't use before it would go rotten. It is MS if it means you won't lose things you've bought by them going mouldy and unusable! Not so much if you're buying perfectly fresh stuff and just freezing for the sake of it, but I doubt anyone meant they do that.
I think when it comes to MS you have to work out which option would be cheaper, i.e. is it cheaper to buy the special offer or whoopsied pack than the same amount of frozen? Assuming the shop has that particular product in frozen. I did something similar once, intended to buy potatoes and make oven chips, but a pack of good brand oven chips was on offer making it cheaper to just get those, also I wasn't concerned about what might be in the bought ones as I knew what all the ingredients listed were and what the nutritional information meant.
I tend to avoid the two for one's on the grounds that I wouldn't eat it all before it went off.
You do have to check the prices carefully - how come two 500g packs of oats cost less than a 1K bag????0 -
I never blanch... but most of it goes from the freezer into the pot for soup!

HI Crafty
I think it is moneysaving if the alternatives are to throw the aging veg out. It also allows for more variety in your diet as you don't have to use that brocolli which is dying a death (for eg)
I've merged this with the freezing vegetables thread, so you can read about the different methods people use, what they freeze and how
thanks

Hi there
Just a quick question...
I normally pass up on the reduced vegetables as I know I'll never get round to using them before they really go off (not just the date it says on the packet!) but could I freeze them to make soup at a later date...
I'm taking about ... green beans, broccoli, carrots etc
And if you can are there any veg you cant freeze??
Thanks as ever0 -
Personally I would make the soup first and freeze that. Couple of reasons why I would do that, firstly, vegetables should be frozen as fresh as possible, not near to their end life; second reason being, freezing soup takes up less space and is less bulky than storing vegetable0

Alternatively you can blanche (plunge for a couple of minutes into boiling water) and then freeze. This is handy if you want to eat the vegetables as vegetables iyswim rather than as soup. I do this with cauliflower as I can't eat a whole one by myself, cabbage (ditto) and green beans. Doesn't work for root veg unless anyone knows better?0

I often buy green beans & broccoli reduced, I chuck them straight in the freezer raw, then I steam them from frozen for a meal.
With swede & carrot I dice them up before freezing then cook them as normal from frozen to make swede & carrot mash.Dum Spiro Spero0 -
I tend to make them into somethign and freeze that - on mon eve I got a cauli, asparagus, tons of free courgettes, mushrooms, swede and carrots. Cauli will be curried with some pots, courgette curry, fritters and muffins, mushrooms pasta sauce, swede and carrots in a soup. Asparagus won't make it to the freezer!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Thats great thanks so much.
The only thing is there probably wouldnt be enough to make into soup before freezing so I was really just wondering if I could freeze the bits I manage to pick up on a weekly basis until I had enough to do a soup.
But it does look like you can freeze veg which is good
Anyone know what veg cant be frozen??
Thanks so much everyone0
