I've had some kale in my veg box, I'm not that keen, but I'm sure I can add it to something. Can I freeze it - and it so should I cook it a little first?

Cor the kale we get through here - and that's just the 4 legged family members!
In answer to your question though I've always just thrown the bag in the freezer and its been fine.:heart2: Mumma to DD 13yrs, DD 11yrs & DS 3 yrs. :heart2:0 -
i always put some kale in soup its very good for you and boils down well, i take it off the stalks to freeze then scrunch up the bag as soon as you take it from freezer and its ready for the soup, no need to chop0

I wonder if you wonderful people can help me, I have checked my M&S freezer book and searched this thread but cannot find any info..... can I freeze curly kale?, if so does it need blanching? and for how long? any tips greatly received.
Thanks:rolleyes:0 -

Actually I usually freeze it unblanched and it works fine. I tried to do it like that because it is one of those vegetables which are known to taste better after a frost - so I reckoned it could handle it."Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0

i dont blanch mine either, keep it in the bag when you take it from the freezer and if you do it right away it will crumble nicely to put into soup0

Exactly! - saves you having to chop it. I crumble it too, then steam it and mix with mashed potato. Serve with a smoked sausage, this is lovely winter food."Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0 -
Thanks guys! I googled 'freezing kale' and lo and behold, this thread came up! I bought two reduced bags of kale, and both are now in the freezer, saved myself the trouble of blanching - many thanks!
GQIf you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

Did a fab butternut squash risotto on Friday evening (going to make a point of having one veggie meal EVERY week).
But I bought a big one & I still have half of it cubed in the fridge.
Can I freeze Butternut Squash?
Or should I make some soup?
I googled recipe zaar, but nothing grabbing me.0 -
As it is the squash family, and mostly water, like marrow etc, it will not be firm once defrosted again
Best make the soup & freeze thatEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0
