Self Scans ASDA!!!

Beware ASDA shoppers! In November 09 I was arrested for theft from a asda store but later let off and proven innocent. After about 6 hours being detained whilst my mother was looking after my daughter and was'nt informed of what happened and I sent in a strong worded e-mail followed by a copy in letter form (just incase) to asda house to which I was apologised to and told I would get a personal apology from the stores manager and my ban would be withdrawn. Well its now Jan 2010 and not a word! The incident happened at self scan me and my partner scanned through a shop and a magazine to the value of £3.50 did'nt go through and I got the weight announcement but the assistant did her barcode swipe to say everything was ok. So on the way out I was taken into the holding room and the magazine was not on the reciept. Now the thing I should mention here is that I am a former asda security officer and I know security guidlines like the back of my hand. During a detainment there should be at least 2 people present (1 manager and 1 office) but when I was in the manager and officer left and I was stuck with a idiot manager who decided to stand leaving the door open so any customer leaving the store could look in and spoke to me as if I was a hardened criminal. It was humiliating! So after about 20 mins the police finally came and I was carted off and the officer had told the police that it was'nt the first time I had done it. Now apparently as soon as I entered the store I was being followed on cctv by security who if they did have evidence of any theft are to stop the suspect and hand out a banning notice on the spot providing they have the evidence to back it up. Seems they lied to damage my character, now if the gaurd was watching me like a hawk they have to go for what is known as a deter and put the suspect off stealing this gaurd however did'nt and the self scan assistant should of spotted the mag not sanning but did'nt another mistake. It seems the security was happy to entrap me into 'stealing' the mag! Now in my letter I pointed all of this out and demanded to know why such mistakes were allowed to happen to which I got no direct answer. Furthermore I asked what sanctions would be brought against thde manager for his lack of health and safety and common sense, for the gaurd as to why he feels the need to pick out such petty crimes and entrap innocent people and the self service assistant. Now when I was working for Asda in security all actions are instant dismissal for gross misconduct not to menton a case for entrapment, but to this day no one has been punished and I dare say it will happen again, to me it seems asda like to wait and see and hope I forget but I cannot let it go I was humiliated and locked up even though I was innocent, no one should go through what I had to this is just a warning as to what can happen at self scan if you are not vigilant. Has anyone else had the same misfortune or similar treatment?

I won't use self scan. I can't see the point in further increasing supermarket profits, and further reducing employment opportunities. I know lots like them, but while there are still checkout staff would rather interact with them rather than a machine.0

I don't think this a failure of self service tills its a failure of staff training and a lazy operator.0

Shop in Waitrose. No self-scan (at least not in my branch) and no !!!!!!s on the checkout."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

Oops, I got smut-filtered. My friend was nearly murdered in Asda by some mad bat at the pizza counter (another customer, not an Asda employee I hasten to add). Admittedly Asda were very nice about things and gave her somewhere quiet to sit down and a cup of tea, but still, just goes to show doesn't it? The closest I've ever come to death in Waitrose is purely through osmosis from all the old people."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0
