British Airways cabin crew have ruled out striking over Easter if, as expected, a ballot on industrial action endorses a walkout that could ground the entire airline.

The Unite trade union, which represents about 12,000 air stewards, said it never intended to launch a strike during the spring holiday, from 2 April to 5 April.

Len McCluskey, the Unite assistant general secretary, said: "I want to make it clear that, if industrial action receives the required mandate from the members and strike action is made necessary by continuing management intransigence, we will not call such action over the Easter holiday period. We are making this announcement now so families can plan their travel arrangements in confidence."

We shall wait and see, i wouldn't avoid booking with BA personally.

You couldn't find a long enough bargepole to prevent me from touching them.

Thats a resounding NO from me as well.

Why? Other airlines are talking of strike action (LH).
Legal team on standby

I usually do ;).

But surely, it is a matter of common sense to avoid booking with an airline where the unions involved are actively talking about taking Industrial (In)Action ?

Which other airline currently has strike action hanging over it ?

Direct Line and Churchill are both part of Royal Bank of Scotland, so I didn't bother waiting to see if their answer would be any different.

anyone found an insurance policy that would cover strike action if bought now? churchill, aviva & direct line all have the same policy wording:

"any claim arising from the failure of
public transport services that is due to a strike or industrial action that started or that had
been announced before the date of
your departure from home". Insurewithease reccomended by the MSE guide also has this clause.

British Airways' service has been in terminal decline for some time - its cabin crew have often set the bench-mark for rudeness and poor performance.

Their arrogant and haughty attitude is now being transferred to industrial action as they resist any change to their industry-beating salaries and work practices even amidst the middle of a dramatic economic downturn.

This is going to be a continuing problem and I wouldn't recommend anyone booking with BA until its management have got on top of the serious staffing issues.

It pains me to say this about our national airline but its staff deserve no sympathy for its readiness to disrupt the travel plans of millions of people at a time when it needs ever single one of them.

Why would anyone EVER book with BA again, knowing that these guys are so trigger happy with the strikes?

I might do it if there's a good deal for a last minute flight and there's no ballot currently going on, but otherwise, never, ever, ever.
• triggerhappy with strikes? there has not been a cabin crew strike since a 3 day strike in 1997. 13 years ago, hardly "every five minutes".
