There's a microswitch in the lock which senses when the door is locked and then allows the dead lock to activate. If the microswitch breaks or fails it only allows first stage locking as the car takes it as a door still being ajar.

If it says which door is open it then leave the door open and lock the car until the horn sounds twice. Push the locking bar with a finger and see if this is enough to get the microswitch to operate. If it is the door open warning will go off.

This worked on mine, but it is a 2009 model. Remedy was a new door lock.

I have a 2002 (52 plate) Jag X Type 2.0 V6 Sport. I have had it since Sept 2008, and it has had no problems, it has 57,000 miles only and recently the car has had the same problem as the above. The alarm goes off by itself and the door ajar light is illuminated and so is the courtesy light on (illuminated when a door is open). I have slammed all doors, boot and bonnet shut, and the prob won't go away. When trying to activate the alarm the horn sounds twice, and the car does not lock. However, the door ajar light is intermittent and when all doors are shut the light goes off as normal, and then it happens again on another occassion, the door ajar light is illuminated when all doors are shut. The alarm going off at 2 am was annoying my family and neighbours. I took the car to a local Jag dealer and they siad it would cost £60 for a diagnostic check, which will be refunded if parts are replaced. After the diagnostic check, they said the passenger side rear door latch is faulty and needs replacing at a cost of £277 inc. VAT! It sounds like a manufacturer fault, especially if has happened on a 2009 Jag X Type. Am I right in saying I have no choice but to replace it? Please help.

    Hi all i'm new here.

I have a problem with my x type 2001 reg. Every time I try to lock with the key fob the horn will sound off twice but not unlock. I can manually lock using the key.
Today I have changed the battery on the fob and re-programmed it, but it still persists. Also on the dashboard it is showing as a door is open, I have checked all doors when locked and none stay open including the boot.

any suggestions please as i'm running out of the will to live lol :o

Hi pb and all, I had exactly the similar problem as you have. Mine is X-type 02. Keep the engine runing, first open the driver's door, using your finger (upto you which one you want to, :) lol), fully depress the lock (remember all the way and not just half way), if the light is out, that's the door. Now using door opening lever, unlock the lock. If the light does not go out, do the similar on the passenger door. Do it one by one.
My problem was associated with front passenger door. I wish you best of luck.
