I was going to cancel my Global e Rental trial but I have to send the DVDs back first (unlike every other company I have used so far) Once its been safely cancelled I am going to go with my moviestream and see how they do.

Hugely dissapointing service - I wouldnt use unless you are desperate for a free trial. Problems I encountered were.

The "Unique" process of taking 99p off your card and putting it back on again at the start of the trial

    Horrible site navigation

Badly scratched disks - so much that 2 out of the 3 I got today wouldnt play - prompting me to cancel only 2 and a half weeks in. In fact as someone else encountered they dont even bother checking the disks you complain about - I had the very same one I complained about returned to me this morning as a "replacement"

    Slow turnaround time

    Slow response to emails

YOU MUST get a certificate of posting from the post-office - stamped and initialed by the counter staff - then if things go wrong the rental company should be able to make a claim against the post-office - touch wood - all mine have been returned with-in a few days - I know this because the rental company usually send me a e-mail confirming receipt of the DVD`s and which one are next in the post! Hope this helps

Ohhh I 'm paying for this now - its only the last month i've stopped doing this - i had no problems apart from snotty post staff so just started to use COP when sending dvds back to cancel a trial...but now within the last two weeks two dvds have not turned up with lovefilm (my fave and the only one I pay for).

Waiting to see if the second turns up and the first isbeing investigated by Lovefilm - if both dissapear will be really ticked off as Lovefilm will probably want to cancel my account as too many going missing - I'm really angry about these wandering off as its jeopardising a service i really value.

Global E Rental - no dvds after a week, cancelled...no email response
Moviestream - very good, fast and very polite! Also excellent rental queue system tels you how long the wait is for dvds
Webflix - very poor, also now merged with Lovefilm, i cancelled when i realised - they sent me dvds regardless the next day. On emailing them they said oh just watch them and send them back...very professional.
Movieconnect- not a great selection, bit slow.
Screenselect - very good and speedy, good selection

I understand what you mean by 'snotty' PO staff. The PO I use told me to fill-in the form myself as she could not be asked to fill the form in. So now I ask for some forms and fill them in myself. Now all I do is turn up and the counter person just checks the delivery address and signs for the number of items to be sent thens rubber stamps the receipt and away I go - usually the PO is empty so in & out in 1 minute!

Global E Rental - I will not use - appalling reviews
    Screenselect - very quick turnround
My Movie Stream - very quick turnaround - good comms
LoveFilm - very quick turnaround - good comms

I am on a free 14 day trial from movieconnect - went to check the billig date and it says 12th october 2005! I have emailed them but i don't know what this refers to!

Back again: mum received the following email from lovefilm:
[font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]'As an avid film viewer, you clearly know a good thing when you see it. So, we'd like you to preview our Unlimited 4 package, with our compliments.

We think that when you experience the benefits of our Unlimited 4 package, you'll be able to enjoy our service more fully than before.

Your complimentary upgrade to our subscription means that you'll get a greater choice of films at home and having more discs means that you'll be less affected by any postal delays.'

Its not clear at all what this is for - but she signed up thinking its a free month at the 4 dvd package - ie you pay for 3 dvds (£13) but get4 at that price.
However, we're not sure it is - her next billing says the full £19.99 charge for next week, so we're a bit stumped at the moment - anyone else had this email and been able to decipher it?

Also - i popped in the PO and asked for some COPS and she said no! I can't understand it as they give me recorded and special deliv. splips.
So when i go in tomorrow armed with 16 dvds from 4 companies, she best be ready to do some writin'!

I've just signed up for a free trial from MyMovieStream and its looking good for a start. Shame its only a 14 day trial as I would have liked longer.

The site is lovely to navigate - you just click a title and it goes in your queue with no clicking back buttons to get to back to the selection screen. Only downside is that they only catgorise it into limited genres - like sport as opposed to football

As someone has mentioned the queue is excellent - letting you know availability status of your titles so you have a good idea of whats coming.

I have tried 3 so far (in order of preference)

    DVDs 365
Just pips Screenselect due to its ability to list DVDs in order of preference. Site navigation could be better though.

    Screenselect
I was with these for a year and at the start it was very good. However once you start paying for it the service is not so good. They have 3 catagories - 1 through to 3 depending on how much you want the movie. I had loads of titles in my first choice section but never got them even after 6 months of waiting. Excellent range though and good system if the DVDs get lost in the post. Moans though if you have less than 20 titles in your queue so you get a lot of titles you dont want really. Site navigation is good too. Well worth a trial.

    Global E Rental
Lousy site navigation, slow delivery, no response to emails, scratched disks, faulty disks sent back out to you after you report them, take 99p off your card for the sake of it, difficult to cancel

I had something similar with Lovefilm. They offered to increase me from 3 discs at a time to 4 discs for the same price. However when I clicked on the link in their email they were going to charge me the full price.

I emailed them but they said they needed a copy of their original email to investigate (don't they know what they sent out?). I obliged but that was the last I heard from them. So I canceled instead.

hello. I have just started a trial with 1dvd.co.uk.

The site looks very professional but I was amusde by the delivery of the dvd (very prompt): it came in a plastic envelope thing (the kind that has a sticky bit on it).

The printed part which specifies free post had a first class stamp stuck on it as had the separate return envelope in the packet.

Perhaps they are having some problems with their freepost service?

Just starting with them, interested tohear if anyone has used them

I'm running out of movies I'd like to see. 'Assault on precinct 13' has been top of my list for weeks now so it must be hugely popular. As I think Lovefilm is the best so far I've decided to freeze my account rather than cancel. For anyone who quit the free trial hopping which one did you stick with?

Also I've become rather fond of my list of reviews and would rather continue to build it up than start over.:D

Currently on my third Blockbuster free trial and I am very happy with their service. I am also on the 3 months for the price of 1 with Lovefilm for the second time and they are much better this time round. I am also nearing the end of a second 2 months for the price of 1 with Screen Select but I am finding them to be rather slow this time.
  • I had a free trial with Lovefilm and the were fantastic. I decided to use their 3 months for the price of one offer and they have been rubbish! I've had no discs from them now for over a week and I've got a massive list
