When is it time to sell a car?

Scrappage scheme was job protection and that's it.
The CO2 emmissions production vs. use is an impossible one to really measure. The few car manufacturers that have come up with a figure show the cars use emmitting in the region of twice as much CO2 as it's production. But they were only able to measure the CO2 foot print of their part of the operation. A full analysis would have to go right back to mining the raw materials and that analysis is too complex to be done without years of research that would be pointless by the time it came out because you would have moved on to produce the next car model by then.
It took a 68 page document and a small team a year to work it out disposable vs. washable nappies (about the same BTW).
Scrapping a 10 year old car that only has on average say 25% of it's life left means it would not be around long enough anyway to polute enough to make it worth scraping early.0 -
