Isn't this what pop stars and celebs are supposed to do?

Reflect the social concerns of the day?

Not the Nine O Clock news has been repeated recently, and watching it reminds you of the tone of society during the early 80s and the first era of mass unemployment.

Nowadays, you'd be hard pressed to find a lot of commentary on society in tv and song. Bremner, Bird, and Fortune perhaps is an exception.

I'm sure Girls Aloud are penning a damning indictment of our current political establishment right now ;)

They do look a lot better than Billy Bragg ever did though.

Well good `un on him. However it would need a whole lot of people to follow suit to make that one work. I`m afraid Nu Labour just does what it wants, well they all do don`t they.

Just recently a letter, not per house hold but per individual was sent to every one in the road next to mine. This was from our local Labour counsellor. In it she referred to bad rumours going around regarding recently housed refugees in the street. It said that people should refrain from gossiping and accusing them of bad stuff. Interestingly I didn`t meet one person who was aware of these new residents.

Hey it`s like having your own area commissar. Next she will have us all out on the street at weekends marching up and down to The Red Flag.

I agre with this.....and also had not heard of the chap before, but, how successful is he? On Radio 4 he was comparing bankers talent, with the talent of...say a nurse, and other similar comparisons, which I found to be interesting. Because of course a similar comparison between successful musicians/pop stars and nurses is also applicable, and I would tentatively suggest that its easier for a talented and intelligent person to choose banking over nursing as opposed to being a pop star....my point being that the element of luck rather than talent is distilled for City jobs, and similarly more so for ''celebrities'.

Still, its nice to have people who are aware of the issues of the day and prepare to speak out for them.

At the weekend found, not by any particular design..ourselves listening to a lot of protest music and having a giggle over much the same lack of artistic reflection in popular music and art atm.

ETA: actually I think I have heard of him. I'm wondering now if its him or some other geezer I met through a mutual friend...hmm. I've either heard of him/met him or not. I might remember later I suppose. If I do I'll ammend it with whether I have or have not heard of the bloke.
