Best place for Brakes??
I need 2 new brakes and discs.
Although I've been driving for 20+ years, I've never been very savvy at shopping around for good prices, and am always amazed when i hear of people getting great bargains!
Can anyone give me a good steer towards a cheapish place. I have a 4 year old vauxhall and definitely need a garage to do it as I' wouldn't have a clue
Thanks for your advice x

Call up the dealership and get their price and that will give you a ball park.
Then if I were you I would be looking at the local motor factor who will aslo help you ensure you have the right ones.
In your case getting it right might be more important than getting it cheap.0 -

2 new front brake discs and pads, including labour and VAT, I'd say anymore than £100 and you are being ripped.
Parts will be £40ish I'd have thought, and its an hours labour roughly.0 -
Wow, just phoned 3 garages - dealer, national garage and local (whom I usually use). The local one said he would beat any quote from any other garage as he knows me, so looking at roughly £150. That was worth checking!
Thanks for your help x0 -
I live in Kent, and have just fitted front discs and pads for a mate for £140 all parts included (Peugeot 306 estate), compared with the £320 which the garage wanted.
He seems happy with the car - they haven't fallen off yet.0 -
brakes... the bit that stops the car.... the car that weighs about a ton and a half and can do 100 mph...

Oh, just seen posts above - hmmm, so you think £150 is too much??? Arghhh.
Hey bungle4x4, I just don't want to pay too much - and I do worry that when I walk into a garage, I'm like a flashing rip me off symbol as I clearly know nothing about cars or costs. So, this is my MSE attempt at trying to be a wee bit savvy about getting good quality, but at a non-blonde persons price. Thanks for making me think twice about safety though - I appreciate that (and just for reassurance, I'd never drive at 100mph ... I care too much about the world around me)x0
