I have read on many threads about people cleaning before holiday, and I am intrigued as to what you do please. I am the chuck everything in a bag and run dreading the return to home knowing that it's gonna be a mess....
What do people do and how far in advance?
Many thanks

I also dust and vacuum and do whatever washing needs done, so the place looks decent when I come back, otherwise it makes the end of holiday even more of a come down...:(0

A mini-fly lady either in the week leading upto or few days before we go. Tidy, dust, hoover all rooms, clean bedding for when we get back, all laundry up to date. All pots washed dried put away. Ideally all papework sorted, filed, but I don't always manage to acheive this. Don't go to the extent of cleaning cookers and organising cupboards though. In the few days run up to the hols try to wear old clothes, so they can be put out for the recycling after wearing. Still wash and dry them though co I just couldn't put dirty clothes out.
When you get back home after your hol it is sooooo nice to walk into a tidy house. 10 minutes later tho it's wrecked as you empty your holiday bags:rolleyes:0 -
give your mother the key to the house:D i have hoovered and done washing and ironing for dd and family for when they come home in two weeks, fly move on her part0

The couple of days before my holiday, i tidy every room, and change all the bedding. On the day we leave (or the day before if we are leaving in the morning) i dust and hoover every room, so that when we get back, everywhere is tidy. i normally try and get all the washing done as well, as we would be bringing back loads. When we went away a few weeks ago, a good friend of mine took my bin to put out on her bin day, and also took that days clothes (we changed into holiday clothes just before we left) to wash and iron for me!!!! I also empty the dishwasher, and hand wash any dishes used before we leave.0

I always run the water in the sinks for a few seconds before we go to clear out anything lurking, then pour down some bleach and I also leave limescale tablets in the toiletsI haven't got one!0

He he this is by far the best option.
Two years ago when we were away on our honeymoon my mum came and did a "Kim and Aggie" in our house.
Beds all changed, that washing that lies in the bottom of the washing basket forever was all done and the washing basket empty for change, windows cleaned and curtains changed....in fact the lot.
Last year and this my hubby stupidly suggested my parents come on holiday with us so no immaculate clean house to return to
Saying that tho', I do try and tidy up and have a quick hoover before we go away so at least the house is presentable for coming home but then you are back five mins and its a riot again when the unpacking starts :eek:0 -
I clean the house as usual the day before we go, change the bed the morning we go and leave the sheets in the empty laundry bin, I love to come back to a clean fresh bed. washing and ironing is all done up before we go..........siowe walk into a nice clean tidy house, ready to muck it up with all the washing etc from our luggage and the stuff we have brought back.......
