Hi pitkin2020 and bazster, your discussion about an individual's status as a business customer is very interesting. I want to ask a further question.

My cousin managed to negotiate a deal with Dell that seems good to her. So she is ready to order the computer now.

However, in the Terms and Conditions of Sales & Services, Dell defined Business User as someone who buys or agrees to buy the product from Dell other than for private use.

Now, my cousin doesn't plan to return the product, as in the discussion forwarded by pitkin2020. However we were wondering what would happen when we need a technician to fix during the warranty period. Is it possible that Dell will say "no way, because it turns out you bought this PC for home use"?

It should be noted that my cousin stated clearly to the Dell salesman that she was a private user who wanted to buy a business PC. And Dell said it was ok.

It depends on the terms of the warranty (which she should check), but I'm not aware that Dell offers different warranties for business as opposed to domestic customers. The point about buying as a business is that it means you lose your statutory rights, but this has nothing to do with Dell's warranty, which is a contract between Dell and the buyer and is quite separate from consumer protection laws.

He did say that she had negotiated a deal. Can't do that with a cashback site.

Yes, I don't think we can use a cashback site in this case.

In the Terms and Conditions, Dell will repair the PC as normal, although we'll have to check with the salesman again. The warranty type is 1Yr Basic Warranty - Next Business Day On Site Service.

That's what I would expect, and is exactly the service I was praising earlier.

There is another thing. My cousin forgot to ask about the Windows 7. So as it is, Dell will ship the PC with Windows Vista Home Basic.

Is it unreasonable to negotiate again for Windows 7? My cousin said she felt a bit guilty, while I thought maybe we would pay a little more to have Windows 7 installed by Dell.

Reasonable or otherwise don't enter into it. You can ask, they can always say no, you will not hurt their feelings.
