when my husband was on a similar income to yours and i don't work we got £10 ish a week. The he worked extra hard one year, got a bonus, and they asked for it back! We didn't claim the year after.0

we need more details, like whether you pay for childcare
if you dont have children you are way above income levels for WTC
with a family income of £33500 you would only get £545 a year
F
we have got 1 child aged 5 and 1 due in may , i earn £35086.01 my wife earns £2663 these were in the last tax year april 09
my wage here is with the o/t ive done my basic is £309690 -
so with an income of just under £38k there is no way you will get more than basic CTC of £545 a year
you will still get the same amount with 2 kids, as your income is too high (even with the baby element)

lets break it down.
family element, £545 + child element £2235 + WTC basic element £1890 + couple element £1860+ 30hr element £775 = £7305 (max tax credit)
Annual income £37749 less WTC threshold £6420 = £31329 (excess income)
max tax credit £7305 less 39% of excess income £12218.31 = -£4913
you are in minus figures, which gives you the basic entitlement of £545 a year
even adding in another child element, plus the baby element still puts you in minus figures - your only saving grace will be when your OH is on mat leave, as the reduction in her income, may put you just above basic levels, but nowhere near the £117 a month you are quoting

Sorry but you are on a pretty good wage and you won't get WTC. We don't get WTC and my husbands income has dropped from around £40k to around £20k last year, this year its going to be even less. To make make it more difficult for us my husband is self employed so they go by last years figures. We had to wait til April last year to get what they were really owe us as they wouldn't believe we had suffered such a drop in income, had to wait for the figures from our accountant. We ended up getting a backpayment of just over £3k which we really really needed. We have three children.
We've cut back loads, its still difficult but I am working p/t now which is helping as hubby's income even lower than last year. Can't get any more out of tax credits til accountant does figures for current financial year, annoying as I'm sure we would be entitled to a little bit more.
All I can suggest for you is that you maybe cut back on some of your outgoings if you are finding it tough financially. We are managing on less than £20k with three kids and I know there are far worse off people than me.0 -
this is the link where we typed in our £117 pm figures

its child tax credits not wtc , weve been getting £42 or so pm0 -
Sorry I must have misread one of the posts above and thought you were talking about WTC as well as child tax credit.
Is the tax credits taking into account that you will have a new baby and therefore you get the amount for a child under 1 year old added onto your basic? Is that why it is saying on this website that you can have more than you currently get? You have to apply for the credits for the new baby once they are born. We got the minimum money for our three when hubby was on better income, similar to what you earn and nothing else. I didn't work at that point.
Have you phoned up the tax credits people? If you phone them first thing in the morning usually you can get through pretty quickly. I'm sure a phone call would sort it all out, tell them what the government site online says, you can but try.0 -

I think I am going to put a bit of a damper on things (sorry)
If you look below the total figure (which is indeed £117) it says
This is the amount your household may be entitled to from 19/01/2010 until 05/04/2010. This result is only an estimate and is based on the information provided assuming you make the claim on 19/01/2010. This means the amount shown may not be your entitlement for the full year.
It is not a weekly or monthly figure it is the total payable for the next 11 or so weeks so approx £10 per week so matches what you get today0
