check out the hmrc tax credits online calculator, it will give you an idea if you can.

I do doubt it though, I don't qualify and I am a single Mum and earn less than you (without your wifes wage on top) BUT I do qualify for the Childcare element of WTC as my child is with a childminder all day.

WTC is capped at approx £17k so on your salary alone you are well over the limit. You would only get the basic family element on the figures in your post.

You would of already given the details for the year up to april 2009 and when you got the new award letter you would of been asked to check all details were correct and if not to notify them otherwise. If they didnt hear back from you they would of assumed all was ok, so I dont think you have any cause for any backpayments

You certainly won't get 2 years worth of backdated CTC. At the end of the year you are sent a form to sign to check that the figures are correct, they ask IIRC was your income an estimate or actual figure.

I think the £117 per month is the mistake. The £10 per week amount sounds like the correct one for your circumstances. They've probably changed your salary to a random amount when you reported a different change in circumstances. This seems to be standard practise with the tax credits system.

They changed my husband's income to 0, but kept his hours at 21. We suddenly received several cheques and bank credits. Eventually they wrote to us and I was able to correct it, but now are in a mess.

we need more details, like whether you pay for childcare

if you dont have children you are way above income levels for WTC

with a family income of £33500 you would only get £545 a year
