I have been giving my cat RD diet dry food (recommended by the vet) for nearly a year now and she has gone from 6kg to 4.9kg. It has got a lot of fibre which makes her feel full but hasn't got too many calories.

If your cat is being fed elsewhere it could be a good idea to have a tag attached to her collar saying ' don't feed me I'm on a special diet' or something like that. Friends of mine did that to the cat they adopted as she was huge and it helped. If people understand that she should not eat too much for medical reason they will be less inclined to give her treats.

It's hard to diet a fat cat when the other cat is picky with food - it's not an excuse but time is also pressing! The Tom was ill a while back & now I give them wet as well as dry (I do have some raw but only the Tom will eat it so I don't give it often - he drags the bloody ox heart chunks all around the kitchen - yuck!). I guess toys & extra playtime will have to slim my Fatty instead of portion control!
