Advice on cat dieting please

Holy moly! 28lbs or 12.7kg. What has your vet been suggesting you do to start bringing his weight down?
I gobsmacked that your neighbours would do this. Have you successfully sorted the problem now or is someone still feeding him? Firefox suggested a tag on the cats explaining they are ill and must not be fed any food outside the home. Would that help frighten your neighbours into stopping? What about a polite letter as well explaining the cat now has health problems and must not be fed anything outside the home as it could interfere with the drugs he is given (perhaps not through the vets door as they will probably want to know all the details )
Does your fatty cat wear a collar?
Yes, he has a flouro collar that says "I live at **** road, PLEASE DO NOT FEED ME" on it in large letters.
Hasn't stopped idiots thinking hes homeless.
Re the vet, she admitted they feed him when he turns up in their kitchen. Neighbour said "but he must be hungry, he cries til we feed him!"
At the moment he is on two small bowls of science diet and a lick of asda pouch jelly twice a day. And Im taking him on two short walks a day, which will hopefully show the neighbours how bad things are! With Sparkles! :happylove And Shiny Things!0 -
I would post a piccy of the very fat cat but cant work out how toWith Sparkles! :happylove And Shiny Things!0

Skipsmum - I think you have to upload your picture to a free photo account like photobucket and then post a link to the picture. I don't think your can post a picture straight onto the forum.
I think your vet should be given an extra stern talking to. Unbelievable a vet would do that when they can blatantly see the cat is overweight. Glad to see your cat has taken to the walks. Mine simply refuses point blank. Reminds me of that 118 ad about the film The 39 Steps.
"Forget it. Anymore than 20 steps 118 and I take a taxi."

Well it seems to still be ok here.
Fat cat and normal cat are having their daily rations split, which seems to satisfy their need to see food frequently. Fatty still on 50g and has just been fed her third meal, of which she left half (is she satisfied or just eaten somewhere else...hmmm). Normal cat had around 55g and ate the lot. Although they're both after more food most of the time, I can withstand their mewing and they give up eventually. Hubby has just admitted he fed Normal cat five kibble biscuits as a treat. Aaagggg...so much for going cold turkey. But its only five (as long as it stays only five).
The real star of the show is skinny cat, who has already consumed 5 small meals today so far. This adds up 140 calories of wet food for her plus a few extra high-protein cheesy pillow treats. She's well on her way to proper eating habits and with the regular meals seems more active than usual.
Unfortunately, I may have inadvertently given the game away about skinny cat's new eating spot. I snuck into the living room, shut the door, got her food ready, popped it on the windowsill and stayed talking and stroking her while she ate it.
I put the bowl in the kitchen sink, came back in and plopped myself down on the sofa, only to hear a chirrup next to me from fatty who had secreted herself very well in a small space between the sofa cushions and couple of wool lap quilts. I nearly shot out of my skin - and realised too late she had watched me prepare skinny's meal and skinny eat it.
Hopefully she'll forget....

Well...someone got some raw today. Partially eaten mouse found out the front...top half gone but for the nose and teeth!
Can't be fatty surely. Fatty doesn't do wild buffets...could I have driven her to it
Tried to sort out the last feed of the day and NONE of them are interested right now. Too busy jockeying for positions in front of the fire. Me and the catnip bag are being ignored. I've just been huffed at.
Well happy about how the day has gone.
Lull before the storm I'm sure..."carpe that diem"0 -
I would love to see a pic of a two-stone cat!
My normal sized cat preferred raw to cooked chicken - they only rarely get raw as a treat. Normally they have Burns dry with ocassional other dry (basically if they are on special offer - currently Joe Inglis's) & ocassional wet which is normally Hi-life pouches - v ocassionally Butchers choice. I must say because I have been home alot more over Christmas & New Years/snow etc I have varied the food more than usual (well also partly after reading all the different posts about raw I thought I would try it - esp as I don't insure my two & they are getting older now: 10 & 8yrs respectively).
Note: the fat one is a house cat & the normal sized one ocassionally sleeps out (so I may consider insuring him but not 100% decided on that as when I looked into it years ago it was charged by postcode & I resented paying extra because I live in inner london as 99% of the time he's happily sleeping in his basket!)0 -
Hi,
Yes do want fatty spencer to lose the 2kg by June as even then he will still be overweight, he was overweight and hes just put on more since..... I know my own personal life and relationship breakdown shouldn't be an excuse but even feeding myself was a chore about 5 months ago and I am glad hes fat rather than skinny!
Anyway piccies, top one is Izzy the "skinny" one (though vet said she was a bit overweight ), bottom is fatty spencer! Now a SAHM trying to earn some spare pennies each month0 -
I once read Lil that a cat perfects the art of arranging itself in slim poses
He doesn't look that big...black is a very slimming colour..."carpe that diem"0 -

On the contrary, white is not. This is the worst photo of fatty I have. She never looks like this normally but it was a hard chair and it just spread her flab everywhere. Even worse this was when she was only about 6.1kg...
This one's not so hot either...5.5kg
Much better, very flattering, completely posed for...
