my neighbour has 2 dags and they bark & howl at stupid hours of the day, usually on my days off from uni/work.

what they do with the dags is up to them, but after complaining to them a few times, the owners are adamant that the dogs don't bark when they're not there (as if they'd know). they all work silly hours and as such, are often all out if the house very early in the morning, meaning the dags bark and wake me up on the one day off i get.

is there anyway i can shut them up from my house short of accidentally throwing some 'tainted' sausages through the letter box?

    thanks

    What are dags?

  • You should steal the dogs and tie them up in your back garden and see how your ignorant nieighbours like it.

Most councils have a Dog Warden who are more than happy to give information, guidance, advice etc.
If the problem is very serious they can call on the dogs owner and will not disclose who they've been chatting to about the racket.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

we have a neighbour who lives above us and after writting a polite email to my local council they obviously had a letter come because they came and knocked on my door to ask if the dog was a problem. Also when you report it to your council they send you a diary thing where you keep track of when the dogs are barking so they know exactly when. I think after maybe a few weeks of jotting down the times they will send a noise prevention team out or something. Good luck :)
Good things come to those who wait!

Poor dogs, part of the joy of a dog's life is to go out and run free and enjoy the smells and interacting with other dogs. What on earth is the point of having a dog if you are not prepared to even give it a basic pleasure like a walk.

Lazy selfish owners. No wonder they bark and howl, probably in total boredom and frustration.I can well understand why it is driving you crazy as well.
  • Your not going to like this but it really annoys me when people say "i know for a fact they have not walked the dogs for 3 years " your not that sad are you to sit in your window 24hrs a day and watch to see if they take the dog out ,so how do you know for a fact ?.You say yourself you go to work/uni so they may say to you "as if you know " when you are out .
That said it would annoy me to if a dog was barking constantly and it has to be constantly for you to complain about the noise ,does the barking go on for hours at a time .Dogs do bark sometimes thats what dogs do ,maybe the dogs are barking at the postman ,window cleaner etc if thats the case i am afraid you have no case .
I have a dog and with my work pattern i walk in the evening late at night maybe they walk it at night and you dont see them .My dog barks if he hears anyone messing around outside which i think is great because it makes me feel safe .

i appreciate you trying to put up for the dogs and their owners and i'll answer your questions in the best manner i can muster.

the barking is not for long periods of time, it's usually for around 10-15 minute intervals, but at 4/5 in the morning, this can feel like hours, especially when it happens again an hour or so later when you've just got back to sleep.

as i said in my original post, god knows what they're barking at, they tend to do it upstairs in one of the bedrooms, usually the back bedroom next to mine. unless they're howling at the trees, i can't really see a reason for them to be making so much bloody noise at that time of the morning or night.

i would have thought it'd have something to do with the fact the dogs are never ever walked

I dont think this has anything to do with it

My mam's neighbour had two dogs who always barked when the house was empty, of course the owners never knew that they barked as they weren't there.

But their dogs were walked at least twice a day.

The only thing you can do it ring the council like someone else suggested and they will ask you to keep a noise diary I think?

Mam didnt have to report her's in the end, cos one of the dogs had a stroke and died :( and it turns out he was the barker

No im not putting up for dogs and owners i was just looking at the facts and i was just pointing out that you had no edvidence that these people NEVER take there dogs out ,as a poster has said it doesnt matter if you took your dog out 10 times a day if a dogs a barker it will bark .
Going to the council is an option but barking for 10 mins here and there wont count as constant noise .The point that someone made about if you wanted to sell your house in the future is also a good point ,you would find it very difficult to sell or more like it would hinder things , so just weigh up the pros & cons .
