Comet - what a joke!

Needed a new washing machine so decided to replace dryer too and get matching set. Saw ones I like on Comet website, shopped around and found set £101 cheaper from Argos! Went back to Comet for price match, they could not fully match and were £30 more expensive but that included washing machine installation so went with Comet. Delivery was 2 weeks (instead of Argos 5 days) as washing machine not due into them until 12th Jan. Checked order status online last night says for refund after washing machine name. Contacted them this morning, apparently they 'tried to phone me several times' to say the washing machine was out of stock. Checked phone and no missed calls apart from one from mum. Comet then said they tried to leave message but voicemail not working. Checked voicemail, and all messages there as normal, tried a test and its working fine. Comet then said they only tried to call once at that was on Saturday (2 weeks after I ordered items, one week after they were expecting delivery and at weekend before expected Monday delivery to us). Again I proved them wrong as no missed calls at that time.

Upshot is, they are removing part of the price match discount claiming that was for washing machine so I am getting tumble dryer I dont need and paying full price for it! Price match was on both and largest amount discounted was for tumble dryer! I am refusing delivery today and going for full refund and instead will get it cheaper from Argos and just pay for installation myself. Total joke and am !!!!ed off I have had two weeks with no washing machine and they could not be bothered to tell me I would not be getting it - ridiculous! Will take my £431 to Argos where hopefully they do contact customer if there is a problem.

So you ordered a washing machine & tumble dryer - the washing machine was discounted, but not in stock until 12 Jan (4 days ago) - now you have cancelled the washing machine - why? So they have removed washing machine discount & you are getting the dryer ...

I can not understand why you cancelled the washing machine ... did they give you a new delivery date? Installation date? If you go to Argos, you have no guarantee that they will be any quicker ...

AS to refusing the dryer - can you ... DSR rules don't apply as you bought in shop?

  • OP didn't cancel the washing maching, the Comet on-line order status info says "refund", OP has asked them why that is and they've said it's out of stock, so Comet seem to be only supplying the dryer now. OP is justifiably peeved that Comet don't really appear to have attempted to contact them to advise of part order cancellation.

If OP isn't getting ANY of the original price match discount off the dryer then frankly I'd cancel it (not sure where he/she stands merely refusing deliver). OP wanted a matching pair anyway and no guarantee he/she will be able to get the matching washer from Argos (or anywhere).

Ahhhh ... missed that bit about Comet cancelling the washing machine ... :o

I would be careful about refusing delivery - can you actually do that? CAB might know ....

Comet customers services said I can refuse delivery as I bought online then phoned them to price match - did not go into store. They have assured me I will get refund by end of week but I will see...! Argos now raised their prices so same deal will be £492 from them now due to time wasted with Comet.

Have now bought a simialr set from Dixons for £463 and they promise to deliver this Thursday, fingers cross :)

    Hi,

As you bought on-line then you are covered by the DSR ... it will be interesting to see whether the delivery drivers accept your refusal.

Tea3 - stating the obvious a bit but.......... if delivery drivers ask you to sign anything relating to delivery refusal, make sure you put "delivery refused as advised by Comet customer service advisor on **/01/10".

To be fair, I've ordered a fridge/freezer from Comet, delivery was delayed due to inclement weather and they did call a few days beforehand, leaving an answerphone message to let me know and advise me of the new delivery date. Maybe it's the difference between shop and internet?

Delivery was refused - driver called first to say on way and I explained I was told to refuse delivery so he agreed not to turn up.

I will see if refund appears, but it was more the two week wait and over a week when they knew the washing machine had not been received that they did not bother contacting me and then lied about how/when they did try to contact me that annoyed me! I have been nipping back n forth to laundrette which is not exactly cheap or easy to do when self-employed and wasted time during day is lost income. I think they should have contacted me when delivery was not received into them or at least a day or two after that date. Anyway hopefully new order from Dixons will arrive tomorrow.

Well out of the frying pan into the fire!
The delivery was made on time today from Dixons (yippee) but they said there were problems with our pipe work to explain away why our entire kitchen and hall were flooded! We said two previous washing machines been there in past few years all with no problems with pipes etc. They sorted the problem and left, we cleared up the mess. Two hours later tons more water appeared, we checked and can see leak from where they attached the washing machine pipe to our pipework - spent best part of an hour on the phone, given 3 different phone numbers and 7 (yes seven) different people explaining the same thing each time. Eventually told an enginer will call out sometime on Sunday! So until then we are mopping the floor every two hours and god knows what we will do with our dogs who sleep in that room and also what the kitchen will look like in the morning as we cant mop up every few hours and cant do anything to try and stop the leaking due to the way its leaking! We were told to send in pics of any damage but to be honest I expect they will have some kind of get out clause. Not a happy bunny!

Are there any good companies left?
We also need new freezer and cooker but are scratching our heads trying to work out who to go to as so far not much luck with electrical stores!

Apart from doing that the pipes leading to the washing machine normally have the taps on to turn the water off just to the washing machine.
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.
