Orange: when does new tarriff take effect

Hi there,
My girlfriend upgraded her Orange contract from everyday 50 to iPhone 600mins/500txts on 30th Dec at Phones4U. She then received her bill on 5th Jan which was extortionate - when phoning Orange they told her the new tarriff doesn't take effect until her next billing date which was 5th Jan - effectively she has been charged roughly 70 quid for phone usage between 30th and 5th as nobody told her she was still on her old tarriff - surely this can't be right as she signed a new contract on the 30th....

Orange have apparently told her they'll meet her halfway and credit her 30 quid, but I simply can't believe she should be paying any of it....

Help!!

  • New tarriffs are applied on the billing date of 8th every month. it would have been done pro rata 30th dec to 8th jan...so the £70 woulda been her old tarriff and what she spent over the allowances.

Just keep playing hell with orange lol. I usually find if you say im outraged etc etc they do tend to bow down eventually lol. It may take you a couple of calls but keep trying

CPW should have notified you the tariff would not have been applied straight away. There was someone on here with the same issue however they were told it wouldn't be applied yet but they still using the IPhone features and ran up a bill!

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies
  • many thanks for the quick replies!

At no point did Phones4U tell her about the tariff not changing until the next billing date, she simply assummed she had a new contract from that date and the new tariff started immediately...imagine her bill if the billing date was later in the month, somethings not right here....

She's going to call Orange back today and see if they'll say anything different - why can't they simply start the new tariff on the new contract day and pro-rata the whole months bill - that's what Vodafone did with me when I upgraded last time...
