help my brakes are stuck on

Morning
Tried to move my car this morning but the brakes seem to be locked on. Haven't moved it since Friday. Handbrake releases but car lifts. Any ideas?

is it the rear that feels thats its bound on?
is it really cold down your way?eg could they be frozen?
i would in the first instance just try rocking the car on powqer to see if you can unstick them
dont drive the car forward though, dragging the wheel
  • Tried rocking car, still nothing. Weather not cold this direction

this happened to me a few years ago and i got RAC out. They just took the wheel off and used a rubber mallet to tap round the disc on the car to loosen it up and it worked a treat. It still stuck slightly everytime i left it for a few days and if t was wet but not as bad as the fisrt time!

My car often does this, but not as bad. Park it in gear in future, with the handbrake off.

What type of car is it?

If its not frozen on then getting the wheel off and giving the drum(?) a couple of smacks all the way round with a rubber mallet can work wonders...

This happened to me too but ended up not releasing so towed to garage for replacement brakes. Had a bit of difficulty getting it on the truck too as it was parked facing in. 3 men and a jack bouncing it round to face the other way! Took ages.

    And risk getting prosecuted.. ;)

Seriously, as long as the OP doesn't have fancy Alloys, just give the wheel/s a clout with a lump hammer.

My Focus does this in the wet if left for a few days. Driving off usually results in a large "CLUNK!" and all is well lol

  • Thank you everyone for your responses.
Got it unstuck through a combination of shoving at the back, then the front, swearing loudly, and threatening it with a mallet. Job done for now.
    Thanks Again
