How to value the house in order to buy my ex out

So, is it OK to get an evaluation or 2 from local estate agents, and then look in to selling the house ourselves? I think that seems more popular these days. Can anyone put a link on here for the part of the forum which deals with that please? I'd appreciate it, as I have been looking and can't find it anywhere.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

The main forum on House buying, renting and selling is http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=16
The specific sticky on selling is http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=5383
This thread is rather long so read at least the first post from Marcus (from 2004) - then jump to page 11 to pick it up from July 2009.
There are ways to get your house onto RightMove without paying the silly prices charged by estate agents.0 -
Thank you so much. That is exactly the right way to give a link...... it can take forever wading through pages and pages of similar posts, so I really appreciate it.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

Reliable hearsay I'm afraid! You're the first person I've seen to claim it 'works quite well' ....
Is there any verifiable source to back up the assertion that 'EAs use it'?
My personal tests were to look at estate agent particulars in an area and compare the prices with Zoopla's estimate. In most cases it was within 10% - often much closer.0
