Best Coin Forward Challenge (Formerly "Bear Essentials")

Started as the "Bear Essentials" Challenge, a personal challenge for me (named after my cute bear money box), the aim was to save the best, or largest, coin you have at the end of each day. At the end of the month use the coins to pay off store cards / credit cards / treat yourself - whatever you fancy!
I've had a loose change pot for some time now in which any coin 10p or lower goes and so, of course, the loose change to clear my debt challenge was one of the first I joined. I also save any £2 coins I come across but this is an extra for me - it seems less daunting only giving away a coin a day!
This started as a personal challenge but others have joined in and we're now getting a nice little group together who update regularly so we can see how much we can clear by putting our best coin forwards each day.
Feel free to join in at any point - the more the merrier!

Well, first payment of my little "Largest Coin Forward" challenge went in yesterday. A nice little 50p popped into the tin so at the end of January, if nothing else, that will be paying off some of my store card :TTotal debt at LBM... £16,815.02 :eek:0

Another 50p for me today... had an almost NSD (lunch for £1.29 as I forgot we have no food in the house!) so I didn't collect any more change today. But that's £1 already in there which is a good start I think!Total debt at LBM... £16,815.02 :eek:0

A nice big shiney £1 today :j
And a £2 coin to add to that challenge... a good day! I'm looking forward to counting up how much I've saved at the end of the month!Total debt at LBM... £16,815.02 :eek:0 -
Good idea, ems! I think I'll join you. I too have a coin jar (anything 20p and under) so looking forward to saving something a bit more substantial. I don't think I'll put it towards a debt at the end of the month - will probably use it as a 'special treat' pot...is that allowed???0

Welcome La escocesa!... I was beginning to feel a bit lonely on here
maybe I need a different post title that's a bit more descriptive! lol!
Feel free to put the money towards whatever you want! I think a treat pot is a great idea... it's a bit more motivating than paying off debt, you actually get something physical back for all the effort!Total debt at LBM... £16,815.02 :eek:0 -
I like this one.I too have a change pot in fact I have two ,one for 2p's & 1p's another for 5'ps when the kids were ikle I use to empty it at xmas & divide it into their B/A
I had to raid it yesterday for milk well the kids are older now my daughter still does this but she even puts her smaller notes in so some good has come from my habbit.
count the pennies & the pounds will count themselves
I will join you eventually but I have got 20 odd years of mess to sort out so could be some time.
welldone your 50p's make my pennies look tiny :T0 -

Hi christine,
You're more than welcome to join us as and when you're ready. I'm putting towards debts myself and trying to clear some credit cards. Once I'm done there I will be saving saving for some little treats!
Well, another £1 for me today... I never liked saving before, always preferred spending but it's actually becoming addictive!Total debt at LBM... £16,815.02 :eek:0 -
Doing well on the pound coin front with another one today woo... £1 in the pot. Can't wait until the end of the month to count it all up!Total debt at LBM... £16,815.02 :eek:0

I'm liking this Ems - love my sealed terramundi jar but it always seems such a long time till you see them again once you drop your loose change into that slot of gaping blackness
Sooooooo am going to join you and put highest value coin into another pot (I have one in mind already!) to be liberated at month end for mmmmmmm card payment or savings unsure which yet and rest of change can go into sealed pot as before
Thanks for the inspiration
