Are The New 'TalkTalk' Broadband Charges Fair?

As a 'Tiscali' customer on a broadband+weekend calls+line rental option (£14.99 monthly), new owners 'TalkTalk' are upping my charges to £18.48 per month.
However, I see those subscribing new to this option ('TalkTalk Essentials') will get all this PLUS free local anytime calls, PLUS free technical help, PLUS free 0845/0870 calls for exactly the same money.
Has anyone challenged 'TalkTalk' over this unfairness, and if so, what response have you received?
Many thanks.

How is it unfair? If you don't like the service or the prices, change provider.
If you to see if you can haggle the price down, then try phoning them up. If not, anyone who was with Tiscali and is still in contract can terminate this early if they like due to the take over by Talk Talk.0 -
I have the same issue. I rang them last week to complain about the fact that I was on the £14.99 unlimited internet usage and line rental with Tiscali and am now, from the 15th Feb, on £18.48 for internet with a 40gb limit. I argued that it was not fair to up the price whilst downgrading my package. They said that 40gb was same as unlimited. I said that if it is unlimited, why put a figure on it. I then pointed out that on their website they have compared their package with 40gb download limit to virgin and stated that virgin's is unlimited. Therefore it is limited, isn't it? I know 40gb is a lot, but who knows what we will be using the internet for in 12 months time and besides, with Tiscali it was unlimited. They came back with the fact that it comes with free w/end and eve calls. Great, but I only have the phone line for internet and make calls on my mobile. AND I had that with Tiscali anyway. They then went on and said that all companies are putting prices up to pay for infrastructure. I came back with the item in the news recently where the government have put a levy on us in terms of tax to pay for this, not through billing. Last, but not least they said that if I did nothing I would be automatically signing up to an 18 month contract with Talk Talk. When asked if this is legal they said that it was. I am not so sure. The long and the short of it was that they would not budge at all and consider what they are doing as fair. It is such a shame as Tiscali have been great. I would just love it, love it (to coin a Keegan phrase), if there would be a mass migration from these heathens. A company with apparently no morals should not be treated with any loyalty whatsoever. Talk Talk must die die0

There is no such thing as 'unlimited'. Change provider if your current is no longer providing what you need.
Even 'unlimited' packages have Fair Use policies. Even if they don't, you'd hit the technical limitations of adsl and hit a 'limit' each month in that respect.
How much do you really use? If it's nowhere near 40gb, is there an issue?Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

Am I right in thinking that 'if I do nothing', ie accept the £5 increase from Talk Talk, I will be signing to them for 18 months? When I am not in a contract at the moment... surely, SURELY that can't be right, can it???0

What about the 18 month contract lock in?
Tiscali users should leave and not be mugged by TalkTalk. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
