RAM issues

Hey guys,

Just bought 2GB RAM for my netbook, but when I put it in it's only being registered as a 1GB. Is it just not registering it properly or is there an issue with my netbook/RAM?

Please help

What is the model of the netbook. Although it probably should accept 2gb.

its the Asus 1005HA Seashell. It can definitely take 2GB cos I checked it all out before I bought it.

The RAM is the Kingston 2GB PC2 5300, which Im sure was recommended.

  • According to the crucial website, the RAM should be PC2 6400.

many memory banks does the netbook have. Sometimes with computers you can only have so much per memory bank.

    according to mr memory :P 200 Pin SO DIMM DDR2 PC2-5300 667MHz

So I take it because I bought the 5300 instead of the 6400, this is what is causing the problem?

    Almost certainly yes

  • That memory should be fine, but when you reboot go into setup and turn off fastboot otherwise it will still think you have 1gb;)

Ok have spoken to the people I bought the RAM from. They told me to update my bios.
Have downloaded the most recent bios file from the Asus website...but have realised I dont know how to install/update it.
