I have recently moved house. Looking to apply for a Credit Card. One of my friend suggested that if you change your address of your bank account and apply for Credit Card - the CC company would decline your application. So you use - Royal Mail Redirections. But I am not sure after moving home can I set up Royal Mail Redirections?
Pls advice,
John

Go into the post office and tell them you are moving home and want your mail redirected. Or here i think you can do it from. http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/product1?catId=400040&mediaId=6000080 -
If you do it online they verify your identity electronically, I presume using the electoral roll. Depending on how long ago you moved out you might still be on the electoral roll on your old address, meaning you'll be fine (I think it usually updates Decemberish)
If you do it in person (or online if you fail the above check I think) you need ID/proof of address. Check their website for the requirements, you might fulfil them.0 -
My query is I have already moved out, Can I still setup above facility.
Provided it is within 6 months of leaving that address then it should be ok.
However technically you are commiting fraud by stating false information
on the cc application form. If they find out untruths you will have a cifas entry on your credit report.0 -

It's an outrageous lie and a criminal act.One of my friend suggested that if you change your address of your bank account and apply for Credit Card - the CC company would decline your application.
If you no longer live at the address, but provide that address as your main residence for a credit application, you are committing an act of fraud.0 -
also CC companies often send out credit cards in "do not redirect" envelopes0

You can set up a redirection if you have already moved.
If you set a redirection up in the post office. You need 2 forms of ID. Bank statement or 2 utility bills in your name, with the old address on and date in the last 6 months.
Or
You can set it up online at royalmail.com/redirections. You need your bank card registered to your old address to do this. If it is, it goes through a security check via your bank to verify this info.
Or
You can set them up over the phone on 08457 740 740. However doing this you pay extra £7.50 booking fee on top of your redirection fee as this is the quickest way to set them up. Again, you need your bank card registered to your old address to do this.
BTW If you are having the redi to apply for a CC I would recommend changing your details as soon as you have applied. Royal Mail do not redirect all post, so if you receive mail from the Home Office, ie Passports, benefits, DVLA etc.. this will not get redirected. It automatically gets returned to sender to prevent fraud.0 -
Most cards ask for addresses for last 3 years - so there should be nothing to worry about - unless you have something to hide.
Agree with previous posters - telling any untruths on an application is fraud!0 -

what do you base this on?
only mail marked do not redirect will not be redirected
most of the ones you list dont use these types of envelopes0 -
It depends on the circumstances to class this as fraud.
Many people set up redirections where they rent their "old" property out. But everything is still registered to that address and when they apply for new CC etc they use the old address because they still own the property hence the redirection. This is not classed as fraud so i suppose it depends on your circumstances.0
